On the eve of WWII, Black American athletes like Jesse Owens and Ralph Metcalfe put the lie to Nazi ideas of racial superiority on Hitler’s home turf. This lesson tells the full story of the so-called “Nazi Olympics,” where athletes from nations that in only a few short years would be at war competed with honor—even as controversy brewed behind the scenes, including on the U.S.A. team. Students will examine the athletic competitions themselves, the achievements of American athletes, and the political controversies that loomed over the games, which resulted in two American Jewish athletes, Sam Stoller and Marty Glickman, being denied their chance to compete. Main presentation text by 1776 Unites scholar and Olympic historian Stephen L. Harris.

The Woodson Center's Black History and Excellence curriculum is based on the Woodson Principles and tells the stories of Black Americans whose tenacity and resilience enabled them to overcome adversity and make invaluable contributions to our country. It also teaches character and decision-making skills that equip students to take charge of their futures. These lessons in Black American excellence are free and publicly available for all.

The Development of Drama in Greece   1). Drama is the most perfect form of literary art. Aristotle traces traces the stages of the rise of drama. It has originated in from the rituals associated with the festivals of Dionysus. Dionysus is a very interesting god . Originally he was not a Greek god. He came on the way from east but soon became very popular god . He had many functions. He was god of wine , ectasy, inspiration and prophecy. He was also the  god of poetry, drama, and culture. He was, above all, the saviour god like Jesus. He died a violent death and then came back to life . Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross and on third day came back to life . They celebrate his death and resurrection. The followers of Dionysus celebrated his resurrection exactly as the Christians do . They celebrated his resurrection by eating a piece of bread and wine and thought that they were eating his flesh and blood. It was celebrated with great deal of enthusiasm and ecstasy. This was  celebrated once in a year in spring . So the people had to meet at one place to celebrate his death and resurrection.                 The earliest form of celebration was dance and choral song . There would be a group of singers who would dance in a circle and sing a song about Dionysus, his life and particularly his death and resurrection. The songs were sung with gestures and movements. From this developed.

Want to know more about the life and work of NASA’s “hidden figure,” whose calculations helped send men to the moon? This lesson tells the story of Katherine Johnson (1918-2020), the space program trailblazer who broke down racial and gender barriers in her remarkable 101 years of life. Born a math prodigy in segregated West Virginia, her father regularly drove Katherine 120 miles to the nearest school that would educate Black students past the 8th grade. Her extraordinary talents landed her a job as a “human computer” in the early days of NASA, where she would spend an illustrious 33-year career as a research mathematician. Johnson’s work on the Mercury and Apollo projects, along with her many other research projects and technical papers, earned her the Medal of Freedom in 2015.

Kilmanagh Meadows involves a two-party negotiation between neighbours over a dispute relating to noise pollution, boundary walls, and maintenance costs. This simulation can also be adapted for use as a mediation simulation. This simulation is designed for teaching and learning at third level, and works best where students have some experience and knowledge of negotiation and/or alternative dispute resolution (mediation).Kilmanagh Meadows allows students to move away from positional bargaining towards creating opportunities for mutual gain and value creation. Maintaining the relationship is a key concern for both parties, and students may choose to prioritise this in the negotiation. This simulation has a large ZOPA, allowing for a wide range of outcomes.Teaching Notes include General Instructions, Confidential Instructions for Liam MacManus and Confidential Instructions for James Canty.

LANGUAGE, THOUGHT, and REALITY (1956 edition)

A unique perspective on the confluence of the three basic conceptual frameworks in human experience. Contains several studies, with data, of remarkable world views of disparate cultures based on their specific cultures language. The premise is that how people experience the world, then think about it, then create a language around it, alters their perception of the world in very fundamental ways. The radical notion is that thought and language, creates the circumstances of, and contribute to significantly different realities for different peoples.

The internalization and realization of this concept is significant and can possibly radically alter and change how different cultures assess their ability to, at the most basic levels, understand other cultures realities.
