Critical thinking pharmacology worksheets
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

Successful Pharmacology course completion requires students to mentally overlay complex mechanisms of drug action onto intricate body physiology to make sense of how drugs both correct and cause disease. Unfortunately, many students (undergraduate – health professional) lack the needed study/critical thinking skills required to navigate this complex curriculum. Providing students with lecture content and study guides is only a partial solution as they often fail, alone, to adequately convey the thought structure required for student success. Therefore, this series of application/critical thinking worksheets was developed to demystify, model, and guide students through the critical thinking processes that need to be employed when engaging the Pharmacology curriculum.

D’accordo! is an intermediate Italian open-access textbook authored by the Italian faculty of The University of Iowa. A no-cost, user-friendly e-textbook, which may be fully integrated with educational platforms, D’Accordo! will support students’ acquisition of the grammar and vocabulary necessary for meaningful communication, enhance students’ familiarity with Italian culture through a variety of cultural artifacts, and, for majors and minors, create a bridge to upper-level courses.

D'Accordo! is divided into three main sections: Grammar, Culture and Vocabulary. Following this division, the book offers an in-depth review of elementary level grammar. As the title suggests, the focus of the intermediate level grammar is on the various types of agreement that are essential features of the Italian language. D'Accordo! also introduces more complex syntactical structures, vocabulary, and cultural materials to help students develop greater fluency and cultural competency. It also presents a variety of contemporary cultural material that, in addition to more tradition subjects, deal with today's social and environmental issues, in hope to provide the students with topics of interest to them. D’Accordo! is designed to provide accessible and flexible resources for both self-instruction and classroom use.

EyeRounds.org is a department supported site that provides training to residents, medical students and other ophthalmologists across the world. A very important recent addition are the EyeRounds Anki flash cards.

EyeRounds Anki is a free educational resource created by Iowa ophthalmology residents for all ophthalmology residents. It utilizes “Anki,” a popular flashcard program with a spaced-repetition algorithm that works to decrease study time and increase retention. Residents are busy and usually only have small pockets of free time to study. EyeRounds Anki works to maximize the study benefit received by focusing on high-yield material that broadly covers relevant ophthalmology material. EyeRounds Anki also emphasizes clinically important topics to help residents excel with patients. The EyeRounds Anki flash cards are integrated into the vast additional resources of EyeRounds to allow users to link to further detail on a topic.

The motto of EyeRounds Anki is “80% of the material in 20% of the time.”

Introduction to Intellectual Property Law
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

Unlike traditionally published casebooks, which typically include short case excerpts providing key rules or doctrine, Introduction to Intellectual Property Law features one or two judicial opinions per chapter, in their entirety, along with descriptive notes to fill in the details. The resulting collection can be read on any device, free of charge.

Because reading full opinions is not easy, especially at the beginning of a legal career, another important component of this casebook are sets of questions to focus on while reading the cases. Lawyers generally approach texts this way, reading with purpose rather than to glean abstract knowledge. As you read the opinions, do it with a mind toward answering the questions posed.

Principles of Psychological Assessment: With Applied Examples in R
Unrestricted Use

Rating
0.0 stars

Assessment is the gathering of information to improve decision-making. There are many approaches to psychological assessment that can be used to assess people’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, including self-report questionnaires, questionnaires reported by others, interviews, observations, biopsychological assessments, performance-based assessments, archival approaches, and combinations of these. However, the field has paid insufficient attention to measurement. There has been a proliferation of pseudoscience in assessment, including inaccurate assessments that can potentially cause harm. It is crucial to use assessments that are supported by science—with strong psychometric properties, including reliability and validity, and to develop better assessments.

This book discusses the principles of psychological assessment to help researchers and clinicians better develop, evaluate, administer, score, integrate, and interpret psychological assessments. It is intended for use by graduate students, faculty, researchers, and practicing psychologists. The book discusses psychometrics (reliability and validity), the assessment of various psychological domains (behavior, personality, intellectual functioning), various measurement methods (e.g., questionnaires, observations, interviews, biopsychological assessments, performance-based assessments), and emerging analytical frameworks to evaluate and improve assessment, including generalizability theory, structural equation modeling, item response theory, and signal detection theory. The book also discusses considerations of ethics, test bias, and cultural and individual diversity.

The book provides analysis examples using the free software, R, to help readers apply the principles to research and practice. The text, analysis code/syntax, R output, figures, and interpretation are all integrated to help guide readers. The book uses the freely available petersenlab package for R, which includes many functions relevant for assessment. The dissemination of these principles and tools will promote the development of more efficient and accurate assessment strategies that will lead to important scientific advancements and improved intervention.
