In the trilogy of D-Lab courses, D-Lab: Dissemination focuses on disseminating innovations among underserved communities, especially in developing countries. Students acquire skills related to building partnerships and piloting, financing, implementing, and scaling-up a selected innovation for the common good. The course is structured around MIT and outside competitions. Teams develop an idea, project or (social) business plan that is “ready to roll” by term’s end. Course includes an on-line forum discussion board, student-led case studies and a final proposal or business plan for realizing your dream innovation.

Aimed at healthcare practitioners, this learning object describes why hand hygiene is so important in a healthcare setting, then uses video clips to demonstrate correct, and incorrect, hand washing techniques.

This session presents an overview of the association between water, sanitation, hygiene and human health. A particular focus upon transmission and treatment of diarrhea disease among small children. Other diseases given particular priority in the presentation include Hepatitis A and E viruses and bacteria that cause cholera or typhoid fever. Likewise, the importance of water-washed diseases, especially infectious skin and eye diseases, such as scabies and trachoma are presented. The preventive actions needed to reduce the burden of the various infectious diseases associated with water, sanitation and hygiene will be introduced.

This is an introduction to the fascinated multidisciplinary world of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). An area relevant due to the 1,5 million people annually dying of WASH-related disease, but also highly relevant during any emergency, whether it is a cholera outbreak in the slums of Dhaka Bangladesh, drought and water shortage in Kenya or hygiene-related virus outbreaks anywhere on the globe. The course ties theories of engineering, anthropology, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, disaster management, etc. with practical exercises to provide the student with the multifaceted background knowledge needed to be able to respond in an emergency actively. The course Water and sanitation in Emergencies started as a response to the Tsunami in 2004 and is now an independent elective course under the world-renowned Master of Disaster Management program, http://www.mdma.ku.dk, at University of Copenhagen. This science electronic library features lesson plans by topic, methodology and grade, as well as articles and sample test questions and FAQ for science teachers of secondary school students. The lessons have been gathered from various sources and sites. They are appropriate for teaching in Africa. The lessons can be used by teacher trainers as models of exciting and creative teaching. The lessons may also be revised and modified. The methodologies may be useful for teacher trainers and applicable to a variety of subjects.

The Codex Alimentarius published a new version of ‘’General Principles of Food Hygiene’’ in November 2020. The series of the document has been critical for countries/organizations to develop and revise their food regulations/certifications. Thus, the new release will trigger revisions on food regulations/certifications.

We translated ‘’General Principles of Food Hygiene’’ and added food regulations and GHP/HACCP examples from Taiwan to this book. Therefore, it could be a nice stepping stone to understand food regulations and the food industry in Taiwan.
