Burning Issues in Classics

This volume addresses various ways that we interact with, refashion and reuse aspects of ancient Greece and Rome. Its studies range from the political engagement of Italian fascists with ancient Rome, to the use of ancient Greece in video games. The chapters each take on a ‘burning issue’ of identity or ownership, that is, how we identify with ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as drawing (often troubling) elements of our identity from them. In addition, they address the question: which of us feel that we own the past? Does Classics belong to everyone, or has it been coopted by an elite few?

Students engage with course content by analyzing real-world business contracts to produce short written submissions before class thereby preparing students for in-class discussions.

This instructor guide is intended to support the wider use and reuse of the course content by educators in business, law, and related disciplines. Business agreements are case studies which create memorable, thought-provoking examples to help students develop skills and knowledge of the structure and content of typical business contracts. The instructor’s teaching philosophy focuses on lifelong learning and skill development. Thus, the course is designed to enable learners to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving labour market through experiential learning opportunities for upskilling and reskilling learners’ “literacy” with business agreements.

Business Calculus (MATH 148)
Unrestricted Use

Rating
0.0 stars

MATH&148 is a calculus course for business students. It is designed for students who want a brief course in calculus. Topics include differential and integral calculus of elementary functions. Problems emphasize business and social science applications. Translating words into mathematics and solving word problems are emphasized over algebra. Applications are mainly business oriented (e.g. cost, revenue, and profit). Mathematical theory and complex algebraic manipulations are not mainstays of this course, which is designed to be less rigorous than the calculus sequence for scientists and engineers. Topics are presented according to the rule of four: geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. That is, symbolic manipulation must be balanced with graphical interpretation, numerical examples, and writing. Trigonometry is not part of the course.

Examples, exercises, and vocabulary are tailored to uses in a business curriculum.
There is a modeling thread throughout the text.
Webwork versions of exercises are available on request.
