This curriculum, developed as the final project for the Creative Commons for Academic Librarians Certificate course, is designed for students in introductory Library and Information Science courses. The unit offers a broad overview of fundamental concepts in copyright, fair use, and open licensing. The materials include readings, multimedia resources, discussion questions, and practical assignments. The curriculum addresses real-world challenges faced by librarians, explores the nuances of open licenses, and guides students through hands-on activities, fostering a deeper understanding of copyright issues in the digital age.

This activity from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific asks students to compress all of time (from the Big Bang until now) into one year.
First, they have to pick major events (younger students can be given them) - this can lead to lively discussion! You can certainly be adaptable here.
Second, the best thing to do is have the students guess where each event should be on the Cosmic Calendar.
Third, have them look up or be given the actual time period when the event occurred.
Fourth, have them calculate (or be given) the "date" on the Cosmic Calendar.
Fifth, discuss! Debate! Reflect!

In this assignment, students are given a specific example of a problem that needs to be solved using classical conditioning techniques. The objective is for students to show their understanding of classical conditioning principles and components in a plan to keep a pesky coworker, Miranda, away from their desk at a specific time of day. The resource includes the assignment prompt as well as instructions for submission. 

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to create and deliver a well-researched, informative speech about soybeans, demonstrating their understanding of the crop's importance in agriculture and its impact on various industries.MEASURABLE ACHIEVEMENT GOAL: Students will present a 5-minute informative speech about soybeans, covering at least four of the following aspects: history, cultivation, nutritional value, industrial uses, economic importance, and environmental impact. This remix was modified to include the most recent AASL standards, an updated image and updated language.Create a Superhero is a five-part lesson plan asking students to research a current global issue which impacts them, their family or their community. Based on their research they create a superhero to help solve the issue. The project follows an adapted inquiry model and uses the online tools of G Suite for Education.   

The project objective is to have students make a realistic 3-D model that is to scale. Student Mission: Your objective is to create a 3-D model of a building of your choice or imagination. The building must be to scale relative to an average-sized person. You make recreate a dwelling, barn or famous building OR create your dream home. Your building must be to scale and should be finished (windows, roof, shutters, steps, furniture, etc.). The outside of your building should include some surrounding features (e.g. bushes, trees, sidewalks, street, shed, etc.). Your final project should incorporate the elements listed on the rubric and be as detailed as possible. Be creative!

Create and print (hard copy or digital) documents to aid in obtaining employment such as online resumes, applications, and cover letters.Students will understand the importance of writing an effective resume and cover letter.

Creating Native American Myths and Legends is a five-part lesson plan asking students to research a traditional or modern Native American myth or legend story and then turn that story, or create an original story into a Pixton graphic cartoon representation. The lesson provides an overview of the basic elements of myths and legends so that students are aware of the structure and key components of each as it relates to Native American storytelling. While traditional methods of Native American storytelling rely heavily on oral storytelling, modern graphic novel collections of stories such as Trickster: Native American Tales are providing a new way of recording traditional stories and providing an outlet for new creations for modern Native American artists and storytellers. The project follows an adapted inquiry model and uses the graphic cartoon generator software website Pixton.com, as well as GSuite for Education.

This activity focuses on one of the many free web mapping applications available: Google My Maps. Here you will learn how to create your own personalized maps in Google My Maps, complete with linked photographs and YouTube videos. The applications are endless: from your local running/biking routes to a map of your field area, complete with sample locations, sample data, and photographs. You can easily share your map with the rest of the world!

In this Unit Plan, Students will use Book Creator to create a comic of the story they have independently read in class. Students will independently use the resource I generated on how to use each function to create their comic. Then use the Criteria for Success ( cfs) to evaluate their own work, and share their work to peers.
