Content Area Literacy courses have long been a requirement in teacher education …
Content Area Literacy courses have long been a requirement in teacher education programs for pre-service teachers for the secondary level and, sometimes, for the elementary level. The 2020 World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Framework takes a genre approach that aligns well with the traditional Content Area Literacy courses in teacher preparation programs. WIDA argues for an educational approach that fosters (a) equity of opportunity and access, (b) integration of content and language, (c) collaboration among stakeholders, and (d) a functional approach to language development. This textbook examines the elements that make up the Simple View of Reading with adjustments made for the increasing Multilingual student population. Then, the text focuses on the Key Uses of Language (KLUs) developed by WIDA with examples of how these are employed in different Content Areas. The final chapters focus on the unique needs and benefits of Multilingual students within U.S. classrooms.

This curriculum, developed as the final project for the Creative Commons for Academic Librarians Certificate course, is designed for students in introductory Library and Information Science courses. The unit offers a broad overview of fundamental concepts in copyright, fair use, and open licensing. The materials include readings, multimedia resources, discussion questions, and practical assignments. The curriculum addresses real-world challenges faced by librarians, explores the nuances of open licenses, and guides students through hands-on activities, fostering a deeper understanding of copyright issues in the digital age.

With your mouse, drag data points and their error bars, and watch the best-fit polynomial curve update instantly. You choose the type of fit: linear, quadratic, cubic, or quartic. The reduced chi-square statistic shows you when the fit is good. Or you can try to find the best fit by manually adjusting fit parameters.

Why do objects like wood float in water? Does it depend on size? Create a custom object to explore the effects of mass and volume on density. Can you discover the relationship? Use the scale to measure the mass of an object, then hold the object under water to measure its volume. Can you identify all the mystery objects?
