EyeRounds.org is a department supported site that provides training to residents, medical students and other ophthalmologists across the world. A very important recent addition are the EyeRounds Anki flash cards.

EyeRounds Anki is a free educational resource created by Iowa ophthalmology residents for all ophthalmology residents. It utilizes “Anki,” a popular flashcard program with a spaced-repetition algorithm that works to decrease study time and increase retention. Residents are busy and usually only have small pockets of free time to study. EyeRounds Anki works to maximize the study benefit received by focusing on high-yield material that broadly covers relevant ophthalmology material. EyeRounds Anki also emphasizes clinically important topics to help residents excel with patients. The EyeRounds Anki flash cards are integrated into the vast additional resources of EyeRounds to allow users to link to further detail on a topic.

The motto of EyeRounds Anki is “80% of the material in 20% of the time.”

This course is part of the Global Health Studies Humanities Path at the University of Iowa. It focuses on health, illness, and healing through the perspectives of the humanities: history, literature, art, and culture. The goal of health humanities is to better understand the multiple meanings and impacts of illness and healing; health beliefs and practices in different communities; and health care disparities. Interdisciplinary inquiry through close reading of literature, interpretation of visual images, learning to ask good questions and listen deeply, as well as reflective and analytic writing, all encourage acceptance of ambiguity, adaptability and critical thinking. An orientation to appreciation of human factors such as sex, gender identity, race and class in personal and professional healthcare decision making are a central theme of the course. It is intended for students interested in the relationships between health, medicine and culture, whether they intend to pursue careers in the health professions and public health, or want to explore artistic, literary, and social scientific inquiries into health, illness and health care disparities.

Introduction to Intellectual Property Law

Unlike traditionally published casebooks, which typically include short case excerpts providing key rules or doctrine, Introduction to Intellectual Property Law features one or two judicial opinions per chapter, in their entirety, along with descriptive notes to fill in the details. The resulting collection can be read on any device, free of charge.

Because reading full opinions is not easy, especially at the beginning of a legal career, another important component of this casebook are sets of questions to focus on while reading the cases. Lawyers generally approach texts this way, reading with purpose rather than to glean abstract knowledge. As you read the opinions, do it with a mind toward answering the questions posed.
