This is a general template to pair with any piece of fiction you have your students read. The year I created this I saw that my 8th grade studetns at the time were struggling with engaging with any text, most were reading below grade level. They beleived reading to be boring and were missing a lot of background knowledge concerning literary elements. I created this template and paired it with their favorite novel (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) I found that they were engaged when filling out these "Guided notes". It helped bridge some gaps and gave them a renewed confidence in the classroom.

In this guide, students’ exploration of AI is framed within the context of ethical considerations and aligned with standards and concepts, and depths of understanding that would be appropriate across various subject areas and grade levels in K–12. Depending on the level of your students and the amount of time you have available, you might complete an entire project, pick and choose from the listed activities, or you might take students’ learning further by taking advantage of the additional extensions and resources provided for you. For students with no previous experience with AI education, exposure to the guided learning activities alone will create an understanding of their world that they likely did not previously have. And for those with some background in computer science or AI, the complete projects and resources will still challenge their thinking and expose them to new AI technologies and applications across various fields of study.

This book is a collaborative effort among three faculty members from the Darton College of Health Professions, Nursing Department, at Albany State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), and part of the UniversitySystem of Georgia. The book idea originated from a grant-funded program to create open education resources (OER) for students learning in UniversitySystem of Georgia’s eMajor courses. The cost of education in the United States is remarkably expensive, and the added burden of purchasing textbooks for each course can be prohibitive. The opportunity to create free educational materials has been a rewarding experience. A free pdf form of this text is available for download. The authors of this book are registered nurses who have each worked 25 or more years in various roles and specialties within our healthcare system. There have been many changes throughout the years. The authors’ experience and knowledge are from a nursing perspective not found in other texts of similar content.The healthcare system has advanced tremendously since the very beginning of our formalized system. The most significant growth has been in technology use to support, diagnose, increase patient safety, and document patient outcomes.However, more can be done to ensure a system that meets all our citizens’ healthcare needs.Readers of this text will learn a brief history of our healthcare system and explore the current state of health in the U.S.

While we hope that most students have mastered basic decoding skills by grade three, some students will need additional support. The purpose of this guide is to provide resources for you to assess and differentiate for students’ needs in phonics, sight word recognition, fluency, and phonemic awareness. This will help students to meet the foundational standards in the Common Core, to meet reading standard 10 (independently read complex text at grade level), and most importantly, to become successful readers and scholars. The primary goal of the instructional activities in this guide is to support students in developing proficiency and automaticity with decoding skills. Decoding (reading) and encoding (writing) are closely related skills, and the activities in this guide address both. Because of the pivotal and primary role reading plays in academic success, you will want to pay particularly close attention to students’ proficiency with decoding and fluency.

As a teacher of students in third grade or beyond, you won’t want to provide whole-class phonics instruction – though more advanced word study such as word analysis should be a part of your curriculum. Rather, you’ll want to identify the needs of individual students and meet those needs through small group and individual instruction. This is because many of your students will already have mastered the phonics skills they need.

For too many Americans, the history class in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (remember the teacher’s plaintive question, “anyone, anyone?”) is all too familiar. Our approach is meant to challenge this false and familiar image of history: understanding and reconstructing the past requires ways of thinking, reading, and questioning much more engaging and challenging than mere memorization.
Teaching in a way that differs from your own schooling experience is not necessarily easy to imagine, let alone execute. Especially given the many pressures and demands on teachers today. Students will analyze documents from the War Department’s Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands — better known as the Freedmen’s Bureau — that Congress established on March 3, 1865, as the Civil War was coming to an end. Using the scale in Weighing the Evidence, students will evaluate the effectiveness of the Freedmen’s Bureau in assisting formerly enslaved persons. Learning Objectives: Students will be able to identify and draw conclusions about the roles of the Freedmen’s Bureau (Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands), critically analyze primary sources, formulate opinions about the effectiveness of the Bureau, and back up their opinions verbally or in writing.
