Rating
0.0 stars

Think Stats is an introduction to Probability and Statistics for Python programmers.

*Think Stats emphasizes simple techniques you can use to explore real data sets and answer interesting questions. The book presents a case study using data from the National Institutes of Health. Readers are encouraged to work on a project with real datasets.
*If you have basic skills in Python, you can use them to learn concepts in probability and statistics. Think Stats is based on a Python library for probability distributions (PMFs and CDFs). Many of the exercises use short programs to run experiments and help readers develop understanding.

Transition to Higher Mathematics: Structure and Proof - Second Edition
Unrestricted Use

Rating
0.0 stars

This book is written for students who have taken calculus and want to learn what “real mathematics" is. We hope you will find the material engaging and interesting, and that you will be encouraged to learn more advanced mathematics. This is the second edition of our text. It is intended for students who have taken a calculus course, and are interested in learning what higher mathematics is all about. It can be used as a textbook for an "Introduction to Proofs" course, or for self-study. Chapter 1: Preliminaries, Chapter 2: Relations, Chapter 3: Proofs, Chapter 4: Principles of Induction, Chapter 5: Limits, Chapter 6: Cardinality, Chapter 7: Divisibility, Chapter 8: The Real Numbers, Chapter 9: Complex Numbers. The last 4 chapters can also be used as independent introductions to four topics in mathematics: Cardinality; Divisibility; Real Numbers; Complex Numbers.

Vector Spaces First: An Introduction to Linear Algebra (4th Edition)
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

Created for a first-year university course, this linear algebra textbook takes an unusual approach: it introduces vector spaces at the outset and deals with linear systems only after a thorough introduction to vector spaces. This approach is based on the authors' experience over the past 25 years that students often need more time to master vector spaces while traditional textbooks relegate the topic to the end of the course. In this way, these new notions at the heart of linear algebra that are often considered abstract and difficult in an introductory course can then be used in the rest of the course as well as in different contexts.

WR 227 - Technical Writing
Unrestricted Use
CC BY
Rating
0.0 stars

This course introduces students to the types of writing they will encounter in business, industry, the academic world and government. It examines the rhetorical nature of writing and asks students to think critically about content, audience, argument and structure. Students will learn how to effectively design documents, present instructions, create proposals and produce technical reports.

Course Outcomes:
1. Analyze the rhetorical needs (the needs of the audience in relationship to the assignment) for college-level evidence-based technical writing assignments.
2. Apply appropriate levels of critical thinking strategies (knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation) in their written assignments, with an emphasis on technical, evidence-based analysis, reporting, application, and evaluation.
3. Implement appropriate rhetorical elements and organization (executive summary, introduction, thesis, development and research-based support, visual evidence, conclusion, etc.) in their written assignments, with an emphasis on technical evidence-based analysis, reporting, and evaluation assignments.
4. Locate, evaluate, and integrate high-quality information and opinion appropriate for technical evidence-based assignments.
5. Craft sentences and paragraphs that communicate their ideas clearly and effectively using words, sentence patterns, and writing conventions at a high college level to make their writing clear, credible, and precise.
