Students read the book Sir Cumference and the Great Knight of Angleland by Cindy Neuschwander in Storia from INFOhio. Students will explore the geometry terms and practice using basic geometry skills described in the text.AssessmentStoria includes reports on the length of time that students spend reading, highlighting, note taking and an eBook quiz at the end. It also includes a messaging feature you can use to provide students with expectations and feedback. For a more extensive assignment such as creating a maze, use a rubric to create an accurate snapshot of student proficiency. Use this link Assessment and Rubrics to develop a rubric for your students.

An interactive applet and associated web page that demonstrate acute angles (those less than 90 deg). The applet presents an angle (initially acute) that the user can adjust by dragging the end points of the line segments forming the angle. As it changes it shows the angle measure and a message that indicate which type of angle it is. There a software 'detents' that make it easy capture exact angles such as 90 degrees and 180 degrees The message and angle measures can be turned off to facilitate classroom discussion. The text on the page has links to other pages defining each angle type in depth. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. An interactive applet and associated web page that introduce the concept of an angle. An angle made from two line segments is shown that the user can adjust by dragging the end points of the segments. In real time, as the angles is changed by the user, the angle measure in degrees is shown and a message telling what type of angle it currently is: acute, right, obtuse, reflex or straight. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. Building traditional skills in drawing and painting is emphasized through study of proportion, value, color mixing, and space. Principles of balance and unity in 2-D and 3-D are explored through constructing tactile collages and paper sculptures. In literacy infused lessons, students connect word choice, detail, narrative and figurative language with images.

Grade 4 Module 4: Angle Measure and Plane Figures
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

This 20-day module introduces points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles, as well as the relationships between them. Students construct, recognize, and define these geometric objects before using their new knowledge and understanding to classify figures and solve problems. With angle measure playing a key role in their work throughout the module, students learn how to create and measure angles, as well as create and solve equations to find unknown angle measures. In these problems, where the unknown angle is represented by a letter, students explore both measuring the unknown angle with a protractor and reasoning through the solving of an equation. Through decomposition and composition activities as well as an exploration of symmetry, students recognize specific attributes present in two-dimensional figures. They further develop their understanding of these attributes as they classify two-dimensional figures based on them.

Introduction to Angles

The lesson starts with a review of basic geometric terms.Angles are defined. There are four types of angles.A right angle measures 90° and forms a square corner. If you were to sit inside a right angle, you would be sitting straight up.An acute angle measures less than 90° and is open less than a right angle. Acute angles have a smaller measurement. Think of them as small and cute. =) If you were sitting inside an acute angle, you would be bent together like a 'V'.An obtuse angle measures more than 90° and is open more than a right angle. Obtuse angles have a larger measurement. If you were to sit inside a obtuse angle, you would be leaning back as if you were lounging in a beach chair by the pool.A straight angle measures exactly 180° and forms a straight line. If you were to sit inside a straight angle, you would actually have to lay down flat on your back.
