This resource is a video abstract of a research paper created by Research Square on behalf of its authors. It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Since 1991, the international Banff Classification has been revisited every 2 years to integrate advances in clinical research into best-treatment practices for organ transplantation. At the 2017 Banff conference, 479 delegates from 23 countries reviewed two seminal concerns in the kidney-transplant field: how T cell-mediated rejection is related to inflammation in areas of interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy, and the evolution of molecular diagnostics, particularly for identifying antibody-mediated rejection. These discussions prompted significant updates to the Banff scheme. The relationship between i-IFTA severity and graft survival has been well established. Despite this, i-IFTA has previously been excluded as a diagnostic criterion of TCMR. Recent findings, however, suggest that inflammation in IFTA can be a manifestation of chronic active TCMR, particularly when other features of T cell-mediated alloimmunity, such as tubulitis, are present..."

"Liver transplantation can save the lives of children with devastating diseases but challenges remain, and varying outcomes can affect patients’ lives Standardization and transparency are difficult to achieve, and new developments are implemented slowly Optimizing treatment strategies for pediatric transplant goes beyond traditional research - it requires collaboration between clinicians and families and the utilization of improvement strategies This need is addressed by the Starzl Network for Excellence in Pediatric Transplantation, or SNEPT We are a learning health network aligning clinical care specialists, technology experts, patients, families, and patient advocates The inaugural SNEPT meeting in 2018 brought together key stakeholders in the pediatric liver transplant community to identify key challenges and set goals for improving pediatric transplantation outcomes SNEPT leadership consists of transplant professionals and parent leaders from the SNEPT Patient & Family Voice group Lear.."

It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Primary viral infections and reactivations are common complications after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Some allo-HSCT recipients develop graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and must be highly immunosuppressed, making them more vulnerable to infection. In particular, weakly pathogenic or commensal viruses may cause illnesses in these patients yet remain undetected in the clinic. A new study sought to identify the viruses acquired by patients following allo-HSCT. Using metagenomics next-generation sequencing, they evaluated 25 adult allo-HSCT recipients from 2016 to 2019 with acute or chronic GvHD. During a period of immunosuppression with a median duration of 5.1 months, the GvHD mortality rate for these patients was 36%. Sequence analysis detected viral nucleotide sequences in 24 out of 25 patients, with ≥3 distinct viruses detected in 16 patients..."

It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Articular cartilage lesions of the knee joint are a common finding during knee arthroscopy. However, the best way to manage these lesions remains unclear – especially when it comes to young, physically active patients. Now, researchers from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center have compared patient outcomes following two different allograft procedures to shed light on the clinical outcomes that can be expected for each method. Their results could help orthopedic surgeons optimize how they treat this select patient group. The first method utilized adjacent-plug osteochondral allograft transplantation -- also known as the “snowman technique”, or snowman OCA. This approach involves placement of adjacent overlapping allografts to treat irregular or ovoid lesions. All patients undergoing this procedure were being treated for a single osteochondral lesion of the femoral condyle. The second method involved multi-compartmental OCA..."

This resource is a video abstract of a research paper created by Research Square on behalf of its authors. It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Close to 25% of patients undergoing kidney transplantation experience subclinical acute rejection which can lead to chronic graft rejection and ongoing kidney damage To date, invasive surveillance kidney biopsies have been the only way to diagnose or exclude subclinical rejection Now, researchers have developed a noninvasive blood test for the condition The first of its kind, the test picks up on a novel biomarker that signals whether the body is in a state of silent rejection The approach not only identifies new cases of subclinical rejection but can also be used to monitor whether treatment for rejection is effective This molecular information can help guide personalized treatment decisions and may just improve patient outcomes following kidney transplantation Friedewald, et al. Development and clinical validity of a novel blood-based molecular biomarker for sub-clinical acute rejection following kidney transplant. (2018) American Journal of Transplantation..."

This resource is a video abstract of a research paper created by Research Square on behalf of its authors. It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Like most animals, mosquitoes carry many microbes in and on their bodies. These microbial communities (microbiota) impact the mosquitoes’ growth, survival, reproduction, and capacity to transmit pathogens, but the tools available to researchers to study mosquito microbiotas are limited. In other species, particularly mammals, microbiota transfer is a useful method to research microbial dynamics. However, such transfers had not previously been attempted in mosquitoes, until a recent study where researchers successfully transferred microbiota between individual _Aedes aegypti_ mosquitoes. as well as between _Culex quinquefasciatus_ and _A. aegypti_ mosquitoes. They transferred whole-body microbiota from adult donors to larvae and then observed the microbiota dynamics. The recipient mosquitoes retained most of the donor bacterial groups, suggesting that the transfer was successful, and the typical microbiota shifts occurred as the mosquitoes moved from larval stages to adulthood..."
