AI processes vast information, generates new content, and helps decision-making through predictive analyses. In education, AI has transformed the traditional teacher–student relationship into a teacher–AI–student dynamic.
This shift requires a re-examination of teachers’ roles and the competencies they need in the AI era. Yet, few countries have defined these competencies or developed national programmes to train teachers in AI, leaving many educators without proper guidance.
The AI competency framework for teachers addresses this gap by defining the knowledge, skills, and values teachers must master in the age of AI. Developed with principles of protecting teachers’ rights, enhancing human agency, and promoting sustainability, the publication outlines 15 competencies across five dimensions: Human-centred mindset, Ethics of AI, AI foundations and applications, AI pedagogy, and AI for professional learning. These competencies are categorized into three progression levels: Acquire, Deepen, and Create.
As a global reference, this tool guides the development of national AI competency frameworks, informs teacher training programmes, and helps in designing assessment parameters. It also provides strategies for teachers to build AI knowledge, apply ethical principles, and support their professional growth.

The in-service teacher training programme was developed and adapted to UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (CFT Version 3) and built by adapting and supplementing existing Open Educational Resources (OER). UNESCO ICT CFT consists of 18 competencies organized according to the six aspects of teachers’ professional practice, over three levels of teachers’ pedagogical use of ICT. The underlying idea is that teachers who have competencies to use ICT in their professional practice will deliver quality education and ultimately be able to effectively guide the development of students’ ICT competencies. Rwanda in-service teacher training programme focuses on competencies to integrate the appropriate ICT tools in a classroom setting and bring new experiences to Rwandan schools so that students and teachers have more exposure to an environment that grants them access to more valuable information. The in-service teacher training programme is designed to empower Rwandan school teachers to use ICT as an educational tool to enhance their teaching and learning.

Abstract
Professional Development (PD) is a process which helps teachers to maintain the quality and efficiency of teaching by improving their skills and updating their knowledge. However, many countries are not able to carry out professional development for their teachers due to many reasons. Issues such as budget and releasing teachers are challenges faced by many countries. The government of Maldives gives a high priority, for improving the standard of teaching and strongly accepts that the quality of teaching can be improved when school-based professional development (SBPD) of teachers is institutionalized in the school system.
The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) strives to support the schools to established SBPD across the nation. Under the Ministry of Education’s professional development policy, a government policy, it is required for every teacher to complete a minimum of 15 hours of professional development every year. These PD hours are conducted by schools as SBPD. Three days are allocated in the academic calendar to conduct PD. The purpose of this research is to assess the impact of professional development programs carried out in a secondary school on teaching and learning.

Since the first version of this book came out in 2005, the field of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) has grown and changed. This update is the result of some of those changes. Our intent is to place pedagogical goals before technologies, as the literature advises but is not always followed in classrooms. In revising this book, as in the original, we assume that good teachers teach well because they bear in mind certain principles about how they can best help learners to learn language. Placing these principles at the center of attention makes it much easier for teachers to concentrate on the question of what constitutes effective computer-enhanced pedagogy and why.
This book takes as its organizing principles both the system of conditions that are known to support effective language learning and the goals that a variety of standards in the field have set out for us and our students.
Examples throughout the book underscore the need to consider theory in every aspect of the teaching and learning process. Some of the points in this book we have made in other places; other we discovered during the revision process. All told, this text provides a brief picture of what CALL classrooms can be like today. Of course, that could change tomorrow.

The Commonwealth Certificate for Teacher ICT Integration (CCTI) has been developed to improve teachers’ experience teaching in the classroom using a range of information and communication technologies (ICT) appropriately, and increase school manager’s involvement in the ICT implementation process in the school. It challenges school managers and teachers to constantly reflect on what they do in their school and classrooms and how ICT can be integrated into their evolving management and teaching styles. The CCTI has been designed as a distance education course and is aligned with the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers. It is an open educational resource (OER) that the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is making available to teacher training institutions throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. The material can be used as is or can be adopted and/or adapted into existing programmes. The learning materials are developed, tested and revised by SchoolNet South Africa (SNSA) through extensive consultations with teachers and teacher educators around the world. COURSES 1. The purpose of this book is to acquaint the reader with what curriculum is, how it is defined, what is involved in the process of its development, the different types and models of curriculum, as well as innovations to make teaching and learning more engaging and meaningful. This will be balanced by the impact of assessment and adapting curriculum in times of challenges with an eye towards the work of great schools and master teachers during times of change. The inclusion of Open Educational Resources (OER) provide a new and exciting dimension to the text through the inclusion of educational resources from experts who have graciously consented to share their work with others at no cost, thereby giving all readers the opportunity of learning about curriculum without the burden of cost as a barrier that shuts out capable and enthusiastic learners from gaining the knowledge and skills necessary in becoming thoughtful consumers and practitioners of curriculum. Each chapter has a short introduction followed by essential questions that are designed to pique the reader’s interest, then by content that will reveal answers to the questions and enhance the reader’s curriculum knowledge base through interactive learning activities (ILA).

This book is not intended for budding mathematicians. It was created for a math program in which most of the students in upper-level math classes are planning to become secondary school teachers. For such students, conventional abstract algebra texts are practically incomprehensible, both in style and in content. Faced with this situation, we decided to create a book that our students could actually read for themselves. In this way we have been able to dedicate class time to problem-solving and personal interaction rather than rehashing the same material in lecture format.

This book disseminates practices shared at the annual event Every Teacher is a Language Teacher held at the Faculty of Education (University of Ottawa) for all first-year Bachelor of Education teacher candidates. This resource responds directly to calls from attendees for a resource that synthesizes the content shared at each workshop, enabling them to access and implement the rich pedagogical knowledge shared. The book is meant to serve as a textbook for Teacher Education courses, graduate courses, as well as an ongoing promotion of research-based practices created by Faculty of Education partners (faculty and graduate students alike) that should be shared more widely with Canadian language educators, teachers and consultants, particularly in its bilingual format. This publication is unique and particularly useful to both pre- and in-service teachers, as it offers modes of practice based on both research and theory. This means it is neither exclusively a lesson plan nor a theoretical analysis; but rather a synthesis that aims to show how the two domains inform one another. We see it as being immediately valuable for teacher and teacher educators, while also filling a gap in the field of language education more widely -- one that embodies anti-racist, ethical paradigms within current interdisciplinary practice in its responsiveness to challenges of modern technology and globalization.

This volume is a result of our annual event, Every Teacher is a Language Teacher, held in 2021 and 2022 at the Faculty of Education of the University of Ottawa. Every year, we organize professional learning workshops for teacher candidates in our program. We invite seasoned teachers and young researchers (many of whom are also teachers!) doing their graduate work at the faculty to share methods, ideas, strategies and activities. Together, our community explores how to work with English and French language learners, as well as learners who come to the classroom with multiple languages in their repertoire. As research and experience have shown us, accessing students’ funds of linguistic and cultural knowledge is a powerful way to include students in the curriculum and center their contributions, identities, and experiences in the learning process. As a community of committed educators, we practice teacher learning with this same mindset – we draw from the personal and professional experiences of our guest presenters and teacher candidate attendees. Together, we speak to the social, cultural and political issues that matter in the classroom and share cutting-edge practices. The chapters in this book are intended for teachers who may or may not have a language teaching specialization. So as to promote equitable access to knowledge, we asked our presenters to write chapters based on their workshops and the experiences they had with our teacher candidates. They write in direct, accessible language and draw on the literature about language learning and teaching grounding their work in tried and tested initiatives. As such, for the reader, we hope the chapters will provide insight into what occurred during the workshops and how they can benefit from these professional learning sessions.

In 1989, Louise Derman-Sparks, Lousie Derman Sparks published her groundbreaking book on Anti-Bias Education: Tools for Empowering Young Children. Subsequently, she co-authored Anti-Bias Education for Young Children and Ourselves and updated it in 2020 with Patricia Ramsey. The module is focused on the four main tenets of Anti-Bias Early Childhood Education, as set forth by Derman-Sparks and Ramsey. These are: a) Identity, b) Diversity, c) Justice, and d) Activism. The goal of this module is to provide a resource for early childhood teacher educators to facilitate their student’s exploration of Anti-Bias Education in Early Childhood Education. This curriculum may also be useful to early childhood professionals who provide professional development for in-service early childhood educators and caregivers (I.e. public and private early education and care providers including but not limited to Head Start teachers, home care providers, after school program instructors, etc.).

This resource was created to help students understand that implicit biases are mental shortcuts that all brains do. They happen without awareness and are socially conditioned and unconscious. A person's conscious mind might not truly agree with the implicit bias that they harbor and could unintentionally act upon.It is important to learn about implicit bias to prevent the negative consequences of these biases. To thrive in this world, we all need to know how to work together. Unfortunately, some barriers need to be overcome. Teamwork skills are vital, and a positive, inclusive environment helps greatly in the development of teamwork skills.

As its title suggests, Learners and Learning is a module that addresses …
As its title suggests, Learners and Learning is a module that addresses most directly the central, core business of schooling. The aim of the module is to improve the teaching abilities of teachers. It accordingly promotes a theoretically informed understanding of what learning is,how it takes place, and how teachers may go about organising systematic learning. The module enables teachers to analyse learning, and, in so doing, to reflect on what they can do to improve it. Thus, while the module draws on the learning theories of writers like Piaget and Vygotsky, it grounds these examples, practical exercises, and case studies drawn from schools.
