There is a long way before the whole world complies with the WHO guidelines for air quality, but the enormous burden of disease from outdoor air pollution forces us to increase action to come as far as possible. In continuation of this, we will discuss what we can do about air pollution at global, international, national, city and individual levels. Most of the actions to reduce air pollution also mitigates climate change and/or promote health in other ways – so there are many win-win and
win-win-win situations

Players make choices related to energy production, consumption, and the impact on the environment.Agriculture:Reflects sustainable farming and food production practices. This course introduces students to modern world history and geography. It provides an opportunity for students to learn and further develop foundational research and writing skills by incorporating practice into every class session. Early in the course, students select a country to study, then all research and writing activities are focused on that country. It also utilizes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to help students explore their country.The course utilizes openly licensed textbooks and publicly available materials as course materials.This survey course is intended for freshmen and sophomore-level students who are interested in exploring historical, political and social contexts beyond their own. Students will have ample opportunities to practice foundational skills including writing, research, source citation, critical thinking and public speaking.It was originally taught over 13 weeks as part of a Fulbright US Scholar grant in the International College at Tunghai University in Taichung Taiwan. It was developed with support from the Open Education for a Better World Program.

With the toll of the global COVID-19 pandemic approaching 3 million deaths in 192 countries and new and dangerous variants emerging constantly, the need for concerted global action has never been greater. This calls for not only a thoughtful public health approach but also diplomacy to bring coherence from the range of disparate and self-interested national responses. This is not the first time global health diplomacy has been called for: from the smallpox eradication program to Millennium Development Goals and more recently efforts to unify global health security, understanding and agreement between nations requires an appreciation for the political as well as the epidemiological aspects of response to these societal challenges. This talk will provide a brief history of global health diplomacy in the era of globalisation and discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by 21st century pandemics.

As the former US representative on the Executive Board of the World Health Organization and assistant secretary of health for global affairs during the Obama administration, Dr Nils Daulaire has practiced global health diplomacy at the highest levels. At present, Dr Daulaire is a Senior Visiting Scholar at the Arctic University of Norway/UiT and at the Harvard School of Public Health.

"In 2015, the United Nations laid out 17 Sustainable Development Goals for the world. The goals aim to improve the lives of millions through actions such as ending poverty, protecting the planet, and assuring prosperity for all. Their success, however, depends on whether leaders can effectively mobilize to meet them. A team of researchers argues that this mobilization is unlikely without greater focus on implementing the goals in an integrated way. Finding connections among means of implementation, they say, will avoid wasted efforts and maximize efficiency. One of the biggest risks in overlooking these connections is contradictory efforts. Boosting industrial output, for example, could reduce the availability of clean drinking water. In this case, working towards one goal makes it harder to meet another. By understanding these connections between goals, however, leaders can tackle one target in a way that benefits many others..."

The sustainable production, processing and distribution of food is one of mankind's greatest challenges. The eLearning course ‘Designing sustainable food systems’ offers an insight into this complex topic.

The online course is available free of charge. It is in English and aimed at students and others who have an interest in sustainable food systems with or without experience in the subject. The first module begins with an introduction to the topic of sustainability and describes the problems in the global food system, together with possible solutions. Modules 2 and 3 explain how food value chains can be made more sustainable and analyse the role of food in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
