Students learn to apply the principles and concepts associated with energy and the transfer of energy in an engineering context by designing and making musical instruments. They choose from a variety of provided supplies to make instruments capable of producing three different tones. After completing their designs, students explain the energy transfer mechanism in detail and describe how they could make their instruments better.

Reading Poetry

“Reading Poetry” has several aims: primarily, to increase the ways you can become more engaged and curious readers of poetry; to increase your confidence as writers thinking about literary texts; and to provide you with the language for literary description. The course is not designed as a historical survey course but rather as an introductory approach to poetry from various directions – as public or private utterances; as arranged imaginative shapes; and as psychological worlds, for example. One perspective offered is that poetry offers intellectual, moral and linguistic pleasures as well as difficulties to our private lives as readers and to our public lives as writers. Expect to hear and read poems aloud and to memorize lines; the class format will be group discussion, occasional lecture.

Founded by Bisher Abu Taleb, a vocalist and guitarist, and Ayham Abu Hammad, a music and video editor, i3zif (play) is an Arabic online music school that provides musical instrument instruction in Arabic and English. Through fee-based courses in several musical and instrumental practice areas, including the oud (stringed instrument), darbuka (goblet drum), guitar, piano, and Arabic vocals, i3zif seeks to streamline music-learning by bringing together numerous teachers and artists in one, online-accessible space.

Courses are arranged by music or instrument genre. The majority of reference songs or popular melodies used in the courses are Arabic-based, though some classes may incorporate popular Euro-American songs and melodies. The website can be viewed in English or Arabic, though more courses are listed on the Arabic version of the website.
