This module is an introduction to integrating technology in K-12 classrooms for the pre-service and in-service teacher. The goal of this module is to give teachers an overview of the basic considerations concerning integrating technology in the classroom to meet the needs of all learners. The learner will assess their access to technology and their personal beliefs and attitudes about technology The learner will examine two models of technology integration. TPACK - Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge SAMR Model of Technology Integration The Common Core Standards that are related to technology and digital media will be examined. Learners will choose a common core standard that suggests using technology and/or digital sources of information and identify technology(s) that will support the standard and enhance the learning environment. The focus will be on selecting technology for the content area (TK and CK) and determine the level of SAMR addressed in the application of the technology Learners will reflect on best practices for maximizing using technology Learners will use a technology evaluation rubric to evaluate a technology tool selected to meet a specific learning goal. Learners will examine the important considerations regarding ethical and safe use of technology and Internet use. Learners will examine and evaluate the “Privacy Policy” of two educational game companies. Learners will develop a Technology Integration Professional Development Plan that will include their areas of need and a timeline and resources (network/PLC).

OpenClass is a free learning tool for building mastery-based assignments that follow a research-based format to optimize knowledge retention for learners. I (Laura Neser) have partnered with them to provide a set of 17 non-punitive review assignments around our textbook content that you can easily incorporate into your classes.
**As of spring 2024, an additional set of 17 short quizzes has also been developed through OpenClass and is available at the same URL already linked for this resource.

Materials below are selected for a graduate level course, CSE 619: Big Thinkers in Educational Technology. The course is intended for MS: Education: Educational Technology students. The goal of the course is to provide students a chance to read, study, discuss, and write about one or several currently popular topics or concerns regarding the use of educational technologies. Sometimes these are new issues, like MOOCs or the Internet of Things. Other times, the issues are long standing, such as Internet security, student data and privacy, what EdTech actually is, or emerging ways to use educational technology.

This course is broken down into several component parts. These are meant to emphasize skills of reading, writing, analysis, and multimedia composition as well as writing a graduate level paper. For the first eight weeks of the course, students read, review, present, and discuss the four books or curated selection of articles. Each book is given two weeks. In the first week there is a short reflection and discussion; in the second week there is a longer, more focused analysis and discussion. One or two of the responses or analyses are expected to be presented in audio, video, infographic, or PowerPoint/slide format. The goal is to not only integrate their technology skills, but to provide students a chance to express their understanding in different modalities and work towards understanding how digital composition impacts communication. In addition to interacting with other students’ posts and sharing their learning, students are also expected to locate and share five resources relevant to the readings. Ideally, this helps give breadth and depth to their readings while potentially locating sources that they can use in their final paper.

Students’ final papers are usually used, albeit in an improved form, as part of their graduating portfolio. I also encourage students to submit their strongest work for publication in open, accessible journals like Hybrid Pedagogy.

Since different people teach this course, this collection of resources is meant to suggest a set of common resources for faculty to integrate into their courses while allowing them to personalize themes and emphases. Hopefully, faculty will also add materials to this content as well.

Let me introduce you to ZOOM Meetings. This is a video conferencing platform with customisation that suits online classes. Teachers can do a lot even by using its free account which offers 40 minutes of the online session in one go.

Please remember that your reluctance is of no value to you. If you do not want to take your face, your voice can also be there as you can stop the video. Use the name of the next speaker when you close your virtual speech in video conference so that the other one can start. It will avoid the abrupt overlaps of speakers.

It is possible to use Zoom on Desktop with Webcam/Laptop or the smartphone you have. Install the Zoom Application for your desktop version or use the App for the phone. Using the Desktop version, you can schedule the meetings with ease and can also record the whole meeting being the Host. It is possible to share the screen or a particular window/screen with the students. You can join a meeting using the Application if someone else is hosting it.
