Kentucky reading teacher Ashley Judd uses augmented reality to get her students excited about learning. The PBS Digital Innovator says she has seen student engagement soar since she started using more technology in her classroom because students are already excited about using iPads and other devices. In the context of the United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, the Ocean Literacy Dialogues week hosted this 3-hour workshop which was composed of interactive sessions to provide training, information, and tools for educational authorities, policy-makers, and curriculum developers. The “Blue Curriculum: A Training Session” was organized considering the recently launched UNESCO publication “A New Blue Curriculum: A Toolkit for Policymakers” which aims to support Member States to include Ocean Literacy in the national curriculum frameworks and educational policies around the world. The workshop was organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) in collaboration with the International Bureau of Education (IBE-UNESCO) and supported by AXA XL.

n the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many academic institutions around the world responded to the sudden need to move learning online, with what might be considered emergency measures. We at CLTD, similarly, created resources and worked with academics across the university to mitigate against the loss of learning opportunities our stu-dents were faced with.
To gauge the effects this move had on students, the Learning and Teaching Team engaged in a series of COVID-19 dialogues with faculty student advisers, faculty student council reps, and academics (see Re-sources, below). We suggest that while the initial move to online learning was necessitated by the pandemic and executed under pressure of time, a revised response is required. This will allow us to deepen the ped-agogical underpinning of our practices. The purpose of this eBook is to formulate a response as we approach the second semester.
