What’s all the BUZZ ABOUT Creative Commons, is an introduction and overview of the origins and uses of Creative Commons Licensing and Open Education Resources. This presentation thematically is centered around photographic and audio works of Bees resourced from the Commons.

The comparative choice of Bees is intended to liken the role which Creative Commons serves in today's contemporary legal and digital online ecosystems to the role which Bees serve in the natural world as pollinators.

Learn about the four different Creative Commons License components and explore why some CC-licensed content might not be considered OER.

Differentiating open access and open educational resource can be a challenge in some contexts. Excellent resources such as "How Open Is It?: A Guide for Evaluating the Openness of Journals" (CC BY) https://sparcopen.org/our-work/howopenisit created by SPARC, PLOS, and OASPA greatly aid us in understanding the relative openness of journals. However, visual resources to conceptually differentiate open educational resources (OER) from resources disseminated using an open access approach do not currently exist. Until now.

This one page introductory guide differentiates OER and OA materials on the basis of purpose (teaching vs. research), method of access (analog and digital), and in terms of the relative freedoms offered by different levels of Creative Commons licenses, the most common open license. Many other open licenses, including open software licenses also exist.

One of the most difficult issues for educators, when faced with a copyright problem, is simply knowing where
to begin -- which parts of the legal rules and doctrines apply to the specific problem? To deal with this uncertainty, we suggest working through the following five questions, in the order they are presented. They are simple questions, but they are not easy to answer; by working through them in order, it is possible to identify which of the parts of copyright law apply to the specific problem or fact pattern that you need to address.

Este trabalho pretende funcionar como um guia de auxílio à pesquisa de elementos de média que constituam objetos de conhecimento com licenças abertas, permitindo a sua combinação e adaptação na a produção de Recursos Educacionais Abertos (REA).
Começa com uma introdução geral sobre os REA e os cinco princípios de abertura. Em seguida mostra a forma como devemos orientar a pesquisa de ficheiros com base nas suas licenças de modo a permitir a criação dum REA que respeite os cinco Rs.
Por último são explicados diferentes métodos de pesquisa de média com licenças abertas e indicados os principais repositórios onde podem ser encontrados, de acordo com a modalidade (imagem, áudio, vídeo, simulações e animações).

This 14-module open course was collaboratively designed and delivered on the Open University UK OpenLearn site in June 2018. The mini-MOOC (massive open online course) was designed to provide participants with an introductory-level tour of open educational practices (OEP) and open educational resources (OER) for use in their personal education context (whatever that looked like for them).
