This is a writing assignment on the topic of environmental justice for a philosophy-oriented "Philosophy and the Environment" course. It provides somewhat realist scenarios for students to demonstrate their understanding of several theories and practices emerging from environmental ethical issues including race, class, gender, indigenous peoples, and international law and economics.

Climate change has no bias, but our societies and systems do. And although it’s a danger to all of us, a changing climate affects some groups disproportionately, raising issues of justice and equity. In this episode of Crash Course Climate and Energy, we’ll take a look at the ways injustice within societal structures causes climate change to affect some more than others and discuss some of the work that environmental justice advocates are doing in response.

Students will explore Asian American and Pacific Islander (“AAPI”) women’s poetry in order to craft and inspire their own poetry, studying central idea and six different poetic elements over the course of the unit. After analyzing and interpreting poems, students will recognize poetry as a vehicle to express untold stories about events small and large. Students will learn about the experiences of and challenges faced by AAPI women, including topics of retaining culture, climate change, and more.

We are concurrently experiencing two global crises - the climate crisis and COVID-19. What are connections between the two? Why are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities disproportionately affected by both? This asynchronous Canvas course explores these questions and more. The course includes recordings from two guest speakers. Dr. Isabel Carrera Zamanillo from Stanford University presents on climate justice connections. Dr. Carrie Tzou, Professor and Director of the Goodlad Institute for Educational Renewal at UW Bothell, shares strategies and instructional resources for teaching about COVID-19. 

This resource is a professional development template for facilitating synchronous learning for educators based on shared reading of a book. This template showcases a book group focused on the essay anthology All We Can Save. Teachers read sections of the book in preparation for each of the four sessions, with the option to focus on specific chapters. Each session addresses a key theme through open-ended discussion prompts and an arts-based storytelling activity. In this template, presenters can reference a sample agenda for a book group session, including example prompts that were provided to participating teachers. We encourage you to adapt the structure and content to fit the needs of educators you support!

The primary goal of these resources and programming, created as part of a larger initiative to expand climate justice education at MIT, is to provide support to faculty members and instructors across disciplines in integrating climate justice content and related instructional approaches into their courses.

The Toolkit houses a wide range of climate-justice-adaptable teaching modules, a starter guide for teaching climate justice, resources for students, and climate justice data sets that can serve as supportive tools to enhance teaching content and approaches.

This resource is a professional development template for facilitating a hybrid professional learning community for educators. Through a combination of in-person gatherings, Zoom sessions, and asynchronous activities, teachers learn about climate justice and environmental justice topics that are relevant in their communities. They learn and collaborate with their peers in the CJL and are supported to design and implement a community action project with their students. This professional learning community was designed and facilitated in partnership with Stacy Meyer and Educational Service District 112.In this template, presenters can reference an outline of the learning experience. In addition, feel free to review "Climate Justice League - Community Action Project Examples" to get a sense of the types of projects that teachers implement, or to check out "Climate Justice Gallery Walk" as a sample learning activity. We encourage you to adapt the structure and content to fit the needs of educators you support, especially by incorporating locally relevant resources and examples!

It has been proven that climate change affects us all, but not equally. Despite increasing investments of millions of dollars to address climate change, the year 2023 was the hottest year on average for the planet. If international governments are investing more in trying to address climate change, why does it seem like those efforts are not working?The fact is that we are not addressing the root causes of climate change: Inequalities perpetuated by a capitalist society. The following lesson plan includes a series of activities that can be done in a classroom setting or a community space in a more intergenerational manner. Depending on how the activities are facilitated (individually or as part of a larger event such as a workshop), the time could range between 30 minutes to 3 hours. The key is to promote a dialogue and let participants share their experiences and ideas, rather than just sharing information. The main goal is to exercise critical awareness and collective action.

The book "All We Can Save" is an anthology of writings by women at the forefront of the
climate movement who are harnessing truth, courage, and solutions to lead
humanity forward. This Creative Commons licensed collection of educator resources includes a discussion question bank, various assignments, summaries of each essay in the book, and other resources.

Climate breakdown, economic decline, global inequality and growing poverty - one crisis follows the next. To build a sustainable world where humans and nature can coexist in the long term, we need a socio-ecological transformation. The new L!NX-series Exiting the Crisis! - Understanding Crises and Paths to Global Justice offers an introduction to the topic of socio-ecological transformation, which analyzes the multiple crises and identifies ways for shaping alternatives.

A total of nine contributions deal with the following topics:
- food sovereignty
- mobility
- care work
- green energy
- green capitalism
- free trade
- development
- Organizing for a better future

The movement is too white, too privileged, and needs to be inclusive of the voices of black, brown, indigenous, and those who are disproportionately affected by climate impacts.

This module is intended to provide students with a starting point for the mock trial exercise. Students should be assigned reading of Harr's book "A Civil Action" as well as view the Touchstone Pictures movie by the same name. Following the reading and viewing, students should prepare an exercise that allows them to put the chronology of events together to help them better understand the sequence of activities related to the trial as well as the characters who were involved in these activities.
