This course was developed in 1987 by the MIT Center for Advanced Engineering Studies. It was designed as a distance-education course for engineers and scientists in the workplace.
Advances in integrated circuit technology have had a major impact on the technical areas to which digital signal processing techniques and hardware are being applied. A thorough understanding of digital signal processing fundamentals and techniques is essential for anyone whose work is concerned with signal processing applications.
Digital Signal Processing begins with a discussion of the analysis and representation of discrete-time signal systems, including discrete-time convolution, difference equations, the z-transform, and the discrete-time Fourier transform. Emphasis is placed on the similarities and distinctions between discrete-time. The course proceeds to cover digital network and nonrecursive (finite impulse response) digital filters. Digital Signal Processing concludes with digital filter design and a discussion of the fast Fourier transform algorithm for computation of the discrete Fourier transform.

This video shows you how to "hotwire" a digital camera. This video outlines the first step in making our digital camera work in the Bit-zee robot. The required voltage for the camera was determined by adding the1.5 volt AAA batteries (there are three of them) together to get 4.5 volts (because the batteries are wired in series). Since new batteries usually have a voltage that exceeds their marked rating the camera can easily run on the 5 volts that the center terminal of our L298 motor controller provides. Students create model elevator carriages and calibrate them, similar to the work of design and quality control engineers. Students use measurements from rotary encoders to recreate the task of calibrating elevators for a high-rise building. They translate the rotations from an encoder to correspond to the heights of different floors in a hypothetical multi-story building. Students also determine the accuracy of their model elevators in getting passengers to their correct destinations.

El manuscrito titulado " Dinámica poblacional de Spodoptera frugiperda, Diatraea saccharalis y Dalbulus maidis en el cultivo de maíz (Zea mays L.) durante la época seca en cinco localidades del cantón Mocache" aborda un estudio en el cultivo de maíz, el cual es afectado por estas plagas, siendo un factor limitante en la producción. Se destacan las consecuencias del uso excesivo de insecticidas, tales como la resistencia de las plagas y la contaminación ambiental, y se propone el manejo integrado de plagas (MIP) como alternativa sostenible. El estudio incluye la utilización de trampas para el monitoreo y control de plagas, una herramienta clave para la toma de decisiones en el manejo del cultivo​​. La metodología empleada en la investigación comprende la localización de la investigación en cinco localidades, el uso de métodos descriptivos y correlacionales, y el análisis de variables como datos climáticos, porcentaje de infestación, número de especímenes capturados por trampa, presencia de insectos benéficos, y correlaciones entre estas variables​​.Los resultados obtenidos revelan la infestación de Spodoptera frugiperda, Diatraea saccharalis y Dalbulus maidis en las localidades estudiadas, la fluctuación poblacional de estas plagas y su relación con factores climáticos, y la eficiencia de las trampas de luz y trampas adhesivas para capturar adultos de estas especies. Además, se reporta la presencia de insectos benéficos en el área de estudio​​. En la discusión se analiza el impacto de estos hallazgos en el contexto del manejo de plagas en cultivos de maíz​​. Finalmente, las conclusiones y recomendaciones se centran en estrategias para mejorar el control de plagas y la sostenibilidad de la producción de maíz en las áreas afectadas por estas plagas​​.

This book also should be of interest to physicists, chemists, mechanical engineers, and other researchers interestedin an introduction to the energy conversion devices studied by scientists and engineers in other disciplines

This course introduces principles and technologies for converting heat into electricity via solid-state devices. The first part of the course discusses thermoelectric energy conversion and thermoelectric materials, thermionic energy conversion, and photovoltaics. The second part of the course discusses solar thermal technologies. Various solar heat collection systems will be reviewed, followed by an introduction to the principles of solar thermophotovoltaics and solar thermoelectrics. Dirty Decomposers

Students design and conduct experiments to determine what environmental factors favor decomposition by soil microbes. They use chunks of carrots for the materials to be decomposed, and their experiments are carried out in plastic bags filled with dirt. Every few days students remove the carrots from the dirt and weigh them. Depending on the experimental conditions, after a few weeks most of the carrots will have decomposed completely.
