This is a free, open-educational textbook and set of course materials for an introductory undergraduate course in cognition.

The suite is developed using open-source software (R, RStudio, Bookdown). The source code for this project is available at https://github.com/CrumpLab/cognition.

The suite includes:

This textbook: https://www.crumplab.com/cognition/textbook
A course website: https://www.crumplab.com/cognition/
Web-based slide decks for a one semester long course (see course website)
An exam test bank (email mcrump@brooklyn.cuny.edu)

We have plans to continually revise, improve, and add to this suite. In particular, a major stretch goal for the textbook is to embed lab activities in the form of web-based experiment demonstrations, and data-analysis demonstrations. Another goal is to develop tutorials showing others how to copy, use, and/or collaborate on content development.

This is the third of six lessons teaching basic concepts related to positive and negative integers. This lesson will review previous knowledge about negative numbers and teach adding integers with the same sign, with connections to “real life” situations such as gains and losses in football yards or bank account overdraws.

Integers Lesson 1.4: Adding same signed numbers using number line

For many adult students, positive and negative integers are an example of when math “keeps changing the rules.” This is the fourth of six lessons guiding students in constructing the abstract concepts necessary to understand adding positive and negative integers.
This lesson will review previous knowledge about negative numbers and teach adding integers with the same sign. The previous lesson focused on “real life situations” and this will teach expressing those real life situations on a number line. The actual problems will still be adding integers of the same sign because of the prevalence of confusion with adding two negative numbers.

This presentation is an introductory lesson on integration of crop-livestock systems in the United States. The lesson includes national Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Standards, objectives, and a student project. This lesson is intended to be inquiry-based, and as such only foundational information is presented. Students are expected to take the introductory information and find specific information needed to solve the problem posed at the beginning of the presentation. It is expected that at a minimum this lesson will take three 50-minute class periods and could take longer based on teacher preferences.

In this video, we become familiar with integrals, both by understanding them as sums of areas under plots of functions, and by understanding them as anti-derivatives. We present the u-substitution rule, which is the analog of the chain rule for differentiating composite functions.

The course Intelligent User eXperience Engineering (IUXE) is given for the master programme 'Media and Knowledge Engineering' and for students from other master programmes. The aim is to achieve an understanding and practical experience of key principles, methods and theories in the area of intelligent user experience engineering. Study Goals: Knowledge of a basic, coherent approach for developing software systems in such a way that the systems' users can accomplish their goals effectively and efficiently, and with a high level of satisfaction. Knowledge of new theories and methods for improving the user experiences in the development of intelligent systems, and of research approaches to enhance the theoretical and empirical foundation of IUXE methods. Practical experience in an iterative human-centered development process, i.e. the application of theories and methods for the generation and testing of intelligent user interfaces. This process comprises the generation of a design with its rational, and user experience testing with video analysis, logging and data analyses tools.
