Open Educational Resources + Dual Enrollment

This practice brief provides guidance to help K12 and community college dual enrollment program instructors and administrators identify and implement programs using open educational resources (OERs). This practice brief focuses on how OERs can remove potential barriers to students’ access to higher education by promoting textbook affordability for all students. As high schools typically cover the cost of textbooks and other course materials, the costs of college textbooks may deter high school students from considering dual enrollment programs, particularly low-income students. The integration of OERs in dual enrollment courses may help mitigate this barrier.

Open Prompt Book from CampGPT
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

In CampGPT, educators experimented with generative AI-enabled tools like chatbots and image generators to learn and explore together. Their work and insights have been compiled in the Open Prompt Book from CampGPT. Throughout this prompt book, you’ll learn more about generative AI, what educators use it for, and key tips and tricks. The “Try It Out” links enable you to try the prompts in your own account (links for ChatGPT and Bard are provided). This means that, if you like an idea, you can start with the prompt in the book and then continue interacting with a chatbot to further adapt the output to your needs. In addition to the open prompts, we’ve included quotes from the educators from whom the ideas and prompts in this book were crowdsourced.

This lesson invites students to use multiple forms of media, including their own Instagram accounts, to explore their on-line identities.  The lesson culminates in a personal, visual essay.  In the essay, students will use their own images as evidence. Then, students will reason about that evidence to compare what they see on their Instagram posts to their “real world” self. Using information from resources explored in class, students will include a discussion of “authenticity” and properly weave in quotes from those resources.

This collection of work is often gathered over a long period of time to reflect what you have been taught as well as what you have learnedPortfolio assessments ask students or teachers to collect work products that show growth over a specific period of time. There are two main types of portfolio assessments: “instructional” or “working” portfolios, and “showcase” portfolios. Instructional or working portfolios are formative in nature.
