The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) defines literacy as ‛the capacity, confidence and disposition to use language in all its forms’. It can include talking, listening, viewing, reading, writing, music, movement, dance, storytelling, visual arts, media and drama. Children develop a wide range of literacy skills in the early years, from infancy through to the start of school, which form the foundation for reading, writing and communicating. Early literacy approaches aim to promote the development of these foundational skills. Evidence-based practices for promoting early literacy in early childhood care and education settings are listed. Some of the examples offered may not apply in all contexts and/or may be more suitable for particular learners or age groups.

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) describes numeracy as the capacity, confidence and disposition to use mathematics in daily life. Mathematics involves understanding about numbers and quantity, operations, patterns, space, measurement and shapes. Numeracy is the application of these mathematical concepts, with skills developing along trajectories from birth. As children’s mathematical capabilities grow, they are increasingly communicated and applied to solve real-world ‘problems’ and build numeracy skills. In the context of early childhood education and care, these problems may include how many cups we need so that every learner has a cup for their water, who has built the tallest tower, or how to make and extend a pattern made with musical instruments. Evidence-based practices for supporting learners’ early numeracy development in early childhood education and care settings are listed. Some examples offered may not apply in all contexts and/or may be more suitable for particular learners or age groups.

What are the connections between the two? Why are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities disproportionately affected by both? Educators receive foundational information around climate justice, analyze the variables associated with vulnerability, exposure, and risk, and explore educational resources to bring this content into their classrooms.Contact EarthGen at info@earthgenwa.org for more information.

The guidelines for trainers "Easy to understand approach and management of ict training sessions" contains practal and methodological suggestions about how to organize and deliver easy to understand training courses for people with low literacy skills (people with learning disability, elderly, migrants etc.) on the topic of ICT.
It is based on the use of the easy to read and to understand user manual about the basics of ICT "Basics of the use of computer and ICT".
The reader will learn how to deliver high quality accessible workshops on a wide range of ICT topics, including both introductory workshops (i.e., how to turn on and off computers, how to use mouse and keyboard) and more advanced ones (how to edit a video and write a CV online), using an easy to understand approach.
First, readers will be introduced to the general methodology and guidelines for using the handbook, while the following chapters will go into more details, providing the specific guidelines for the development of each module of the handbook. Each learning module includes a description of the objectives, a suggested methodology, an activity summary, and criteria for evaluating the activity. This enables step-by-step guidance through each activity and, as a result, the successful completion of each workshop. At the end of these guidelines, you will find a chapter about self-assessment, an important step for learners’ self-evaluation in your ICT training: learners will be able to assess their knowledge via the self-assessment activities suggested.
