This is a syllabus for a first-semester introductory biology class, including reading links for current news articles related to the course topics as well as an OpenStax textbook.
This course is an introduction to the moral challenges that arise in the design and execution of biomedical research and the development of medical interventions. A historical review segues into detailed examination of key ethical concepts and principles, as well as topics of particular concern. At the culmination of the semester, students apply their knowledge of research ethics to an ethical analysis of their MTM BioDesign projects.
This semester, we will be implementing a group activity where we look at the histology for the leading causes of death while also exploring how these diseases disproportionately affect people of color in America. There are several components of this project that culminate in a video presentation that can be used to inform our Merritt and employer community about these diseases and how they negatively impact us. This project will be done in several steps or 7 Modules as outlined below.
The aim of this course is to provide fundamental statistical concepts and tools relevant to the practice of summarizing, analyzing, and visualizing data. This course will build your knowledge of the fundamental principles of biostatistical inference. The course will focus on linear regression and generalized linear regression models. We will use a variety of examples and exercises from scientific, medical, and public health research.
The purpose of this template is to allow the user to unpack the National Core Arts Standards into task-specific or task-neutral learning targets that then can be used during instruction and/or within an assessment tool like a rubric.
The Unpacking Process:

This 16-week course is an introduction to archaeology through discoveries and the researchers who made them. Emphasis on methods of archaeological fieldwork and what these discoveries reveal about humanity, including the nature of archaeological inquiry, the development of human social groups, the changing role of religion in evolving societies, the origins of agriculture, the origins of settled lifeways, the rise of cities and complex societies, political strife across different cultures and the forces which fragment societies. Examples drawn from North America, Central America, and South America.
Introduction to Business is a survey business course providing a multidisciplinary exami-nation of how culture, society, human behavior and economic systems interact with le-gal, international, political, and financial institutions to affect business policy and practic-es within the U.S. and the global marketplace. Students will evaluate how these influences impact the primary areas of business in-cluding: organizational structure and design; leadership, human resource management, and organized labor practices; marketing; organizational communication; technology; entrepreneurship; legal, accounting, and financial practices; the stock and securities markets; and therefore, affect a business’ ability to achieve its organizational goals.

Investigates sustainable business, social innovation and intrapreneurship evolution and trends. Includes opportunities to interact with local social entrepreneurs, analyze initiatives, and develop market-based solutions to social problems. Examines individual and corporate decision-making and best practices. Includes team projects and a community-based service learning experience.
COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of BA 278, the student will be able to:

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students develop personal financial skills to help them make informed
and smart monetary decisions.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: The successful student will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
Personal budgeting techniques.
Knowledge of banking practices and typical fee structures as they relate to the student’s
personal finances including bank reconciliation.
Knowledge of consumer credit including the value of credit scores and interest rates as
it applies to personal debt.
Knowledge of the decision variables when making major purchase decisions.
Knowledge of investing and how to maximize retirement plan decisions.
MATH&148 is a calculus course for business students. It is designed for students who want a brief course in calculus. Topics include differential and integral calculus of elementary functions. Problems emphasize business and social science applications. Translating words into mathematics and solving word problems are emphasized over algebra. Applications are mainly business oriented (e.g. cost, revenue, and profit). Mathematical theory and complex algebraic manipulations are not mainstays of this course, which is designed to be less rigorous than the calculus sequence for scientists and engineers. Topics are presented according to the rule of four: geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. That is, symbolic manipulation must be balanced with graphical interpretation, numerical examples, and writing. Trigonometry is not part of the course.
