This rubric outlines a set of capabilities to do with the evidence-based practice of formative assessment. It can help teachers and their teams implement formative assessment by demonstrating a shared understanding of what it looks like in practice.

This class introduces first semester MCP students to the persistent themes and challenges facing planners. The goals of this class are:

to excite students about their chosen profession;
to offer a theoretical framework for thinking about the kinds of interventions that planners are expected to take;
to introduce students to some of the most interesting and challenging theoretical debates in the planning field; and
to press students to think about the best way of using their time to ensure their own personal professional development.

This course introduces persistent themes and challenges facing planners. It emphasizes the historical roots of contemporary urban planning problems and comparative study of practice in the U.S. and other countries. It is a nine week module intended for first semester Master in City Planning students.

Welcome to the UnboundEd Mathematics Guide series! These guides are designed to explain what new, high standards for mathematics say about what students should learn in each grade, and what they mean for curriculum and instruction. This guide, the first for Grade 8, includes three parts. The first part gives a “tour” of the standards in the first two clusters of the Geometry domain (dealing with congruence, similarity and the Pythagorean Theorem) using freely available online resources that you can use or adapt for your class. The second part shows how these standards relate to other concepts in Grade 8. And the third part explains where congruence, similarity and the Pythagorean Theorem are situated in the progression of learning from the elementary grades to high school.

This article examines the sixth of seven essential principles of the climate sciences--"We Change Earth's Climate." Written for the science teacher, the article covers greenhouse gases, land-use changes, and other human-induced causes of global climate change. Each issue of the free online magazine Beyond Weather and the Water Cycle is structured around one of the seven principles. The content provides background information, lessons, and activities for K-5 classrooms.

This is a unit of study whose competency is to locate necessary resources that help to acquire additional subject matter and pedagogical knowledge for professional development. The objectives are: identify relevant resources for professional development and collaborative teacher networks. Discuss the advantages of collaborative networks and participate in collaborative teacher networks.

This toolkit contains a set of resources used to introduce Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into Teacher Education. The utility of these resources span from creating an ICT in Education strategy, collecting education data, considering approaches to advocacy, designing curriculum to materials development and provides a set of open materials that could be used for training new or in service teachers.

ILLUMINE Evidence-based Teaching Practices Handbook is an open educational resource (OER). It compiles, from the workshops, evidence-based practices, technological tools facilitating their usage, science of learning theory underlying them, and case studies generated by teachers. It’s a practical resource that support educators in improving their teaching practices.

ILLUMINE Teacher Professional Development Toolkit includes a guide and materials for running a 20-hour ILLUMINE teacher professional development course.
It provides summaries of conducted workshops for primary school (Spain, Serbia), secondary and vocational schools (Spain, Portugal, Serbia, Portugal), and a mix of school levels (Estonia).
The ILLUMINE training course involves having educators design and run their own research lessons to improve their teaching practices. Strategies such as retrieval practice, distributed practice, and cognitive reappraisal (reframing of stress) are introduced.

ILLUMINE mini-MOOC: The Science of Learning for Teachers. The course provides an introduction to Science of Learning Theory for educators. There are 5 videos (40 min total), short reflection activities and quizzes.

The mini-MOOC is a free, open, online course that was created to support blended and asynchronous learning of the science of learning. The mini-MOOC compliments the ILLUMINE teacher professional development course and provides support to instructors that have a limited background in the Science of Learning.

ISKME's OER Services are described for states and other partners to focus on their Common Core implementation strategies that include deepening engagement with OER infrastructure, content, and teacher professional learning.

This module supports the guidelines of the Indian Child Welfare Act. It provides information on overcoming Indian families' fundamental mistrust and engaging families appropriately; how federal Indian policy affects Indian communities: Indian culture, traditions, family, and child rearing; the role of extended family systems and community networks for reservation and non-reservation Indians; the premise and guidelines of the ICWA and related federal and state laws that govern the implementation of the ICWA: the notion that the best interests of the Indian child are served by the tribes; collaborating with tribal workers; the role of cultural factors in risk assessment of Indian child welfare cases; community resources and skills in networking within the Indian community and within rural Indian community settings; skills in a variety of social work methods; and the differences between particular tribes. The reading strategy known as inferring is also one of the six basic process skills in science. How to apply the strategy in teaching K-5 reading and science is explained in this article from the free, online magazine Beyond Weather and the Water Cycle. The magazine is designed to prepare elementary teachers to teach climate science concepts while integrating inquiry-based science and literacy instruction.

How we design professional development greatly impacts outcomes. This module addresses the incorporation of critical thinking and critical reflection skills into professional development sessions, with sections on cultural competency, incorporating participant self-assessment at the end of sessions using rubrics, and instructional design considerations when developing in-person sessions or online learning. It is intended to give an entry into these topics for anyone providing training in any setting.
