This lesson is a spin-off of the popular television show Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? Students are chosen one by one to pick an exercise card that will also have a point value on it. Once a card is selected as a class, students perform that exercise for one minute to see if they can outlast their teacher. If the teacher falls first then the students get the points but if the teacher outlasts the students then he/she gets the points. This lesson concentrates mostly on the use of psychomotor skills.

This lesson is designed to support English language learners when argumentative writing.  It is prepared using the topic selected by my students, “Are Social Networking Sites Good For Our Society?”  This lesson could easily be adapted to meet other topics of interest.  The lesson begins by reinforcing that when one is argumentative writing, the writer must choose a side and have a reason for choosing it. Then, the lesson evaluates others’ argumentative writing to see what it might look like. Afterward, the students have an opportunity to get comfortable with the argumentative writing topic they will be writing about with support of their peers and the teacher. Ultimately, with other support in place, students will write an argumentative piece to the best of their ability with a goal in mind.

elderly women, as many of them have fond memories of sewing and fabric crafts,
yet they can no longer do those crafts due to vision or fine motor impairments.
This project allows them to make something beautiful with fabric that doesn’t
involve any sewing.

Children have many family members and pets and friends who are “honorary” family. Have students discuss their family and describe how they look. This project can hold lots of different people. The child needs to put themselves at the top of the tree.

Introducing your Club/Activities: This club is designed for those students who enjoy being creative and learning various painting techniques.

General Directions: Have fun and allow students to use their creativity to paint works of art. Be flexible as students will put their own spin on the planned projects.

Tips/Tricks: Students enjoyed having free time to paint whatever they wanted. It is most successful when few instructions were given, and students got to decide what to add to the paintings. It is recommended that the club is carried out by two or more leaders.
