Students groups act as aerospace engineering teams competing to create linear equations to guide space shuttles safely through obstacles generated by a modeling game in level-based rounds. Each round provides a different configuration of the obstacle, which consists of two "gates." The obstacles are presented as asteroids or comets, and the linear equations as inputs into autopilot on board the shuttle. The winning group is the one that first generates the successful equations for all levels. The game is created via the programming software MATLAB, available as a free 30-day trial. The activity helps students make the connection between graphs and the real world. In this activity, they can see the path of a space shuttle modeled by a linear equation, as if they were looking from above.

In order to introduce some fun, and hopefully get students to practice some of the concepts discussed in class relating to social and emotional intelligence, and mindfulness practices, the Mindful Brainiac Challenge was developed. Students are divided into teams and awarded individual and team points for demonstrating certain behaviors / actions. Using Class Dojo application, points are awarded from one of the three categories: Cognitive and Metacognitive skills, Social and Emotional Intelligence, and Mindfulness. Teachers collect points from their own observations in class, homework assignments, and reports from students themselves, peers, other teachers and parents. Students are only awarded positive points (so they don't get "punished", and points lead into different milestones that award badges. Throughout the course, different milestones / achievements will receive different rewards, individually and collectively, and by the end of the course, the team with most badges and the individual with most points wins.

This document provides a template for students to design and execute a three phase project as an alternative to a default 3 phase project. Its original usage was in art, design, and game classes that devided a class quarter into 4 projects, each taking roughly two to three weeks and broken into three default phases (preproduction, revisions, and final.) Students should start by creating a copy of the example three phase project template and replacing sections with their own project-specific content. This framework pursued educational concepts such as choice-based arts education, teaching for artistic behavior, project-based learning, differentiated instruction and constructivism as natural complements to the process of open pedagogy and non-disposable assignments.

Students use the free computer game Pingus to learn how engineers, specifically environmental engineers, use their technical writing skills to give instructions and follow the instructions of others. Students learn to write instructions to express their ideas in clear, organized ways using descriptive, un-ambiguous sentences, as an example of one type of technical writing that important for engineers. The students write instructions enumerating how to beat a game level, which represents surveying that level for environmental problems. As a test of their instructions, students review each others' instructions and offer suggestions for improvement, and then revise their instructions to make them better. Students also see some examples of environmental problems.

This computer-based project was developed for my ESL Computer Lab. Students who attend this lab learn the basics of using a computer and complete mini-projects in English to build English Proficiency. This lesson coincides with Presidents's Day so students can learn about the previous and current US Presidents and their contribution to America. Students share their research with each other in Google Drive. The culminating activity is a group game that only included information the students have provided.

Here is a lesson that will challenge students ot make predication based on expected results. You will need two dice for each pair of students in your classroom. A token of some sort will help students mark their progress in the game. The Dice Game is a pair activity, and the Dice Assessment is a stand alone activity where teachers can check student understanding.Activity 1: In pairs, have students roll two dice ten times each. Have the other student record the results. What numbers show up the most often?Activity 2: Dice Game. Have the students follow the sheet and fill it out togetherActivity 3: Dice Assessment. Have students individually complete the assessment.
