STUDENT ACTIVITY – 1st – TXThis is a distance-learning lesson students can complete at home.Students will go on a scavenger hunt in the outdoor space and explain how living things they observe rely on other living and non-living things in the environment to survive.This activity was created by Out Teach (out-teach.org), a nonprofit providing outdoor experiential learning to transform Science education for students in under-served communities. .

Developed by Washington Latin Public Charter School, this four slide Power Point provides several conversation-starters in the form of brief "about you" lists. The "about you" lists describe two famous musicians from the Arab world, and two characters from the popular American television show, "The Simpsons."

The slides make use of pictures and Arabic text, and frame the "about you" lists in common phrases and expressions that facilitate general conversation about everyday topics.

 In this lab, students will share their daily/weekly schedule with each other in groups. Then, they will have to make schedules for each other and share them with the group. Students will practice talking about time and location of their daily activities.

What if Google could puzzle just a little bit more.This session will show how to use Google Suite to make online puzzles for students and break out'boxes' that each student can use. Did you ever play "pretend" as a kid, like pretend you went to the store to "play restaurant," or "play doctor?" As fun as these games were, they also served valuable educational purposes, teaching us how to act and interact in the real world (like the grown-ups do!) and use appropriate language. Applying this same "play" activity in a world language classroom (of all ages!) gives students the opportunity to not only practice their language skills in a real world scenario, but also engage in culturally appropriate interactions, apply knowledge from different subject matters, and make connections to the world outside of the classroom.Danielle Fulcher, Lincoln Northwest High, dfulcher@lps.org

Users may pick from a number of speakers within a chosen dialect, all of whom speak from readily available text about a range of topics, including family life, culture, school, activities, and food.
