This unit plan was designed in order to instruct students in the Kittitas Valley about the contributions and perspectives of the Kittitas Band of the Yakama Nation. This unit plan has students use primary and secondary sources, inquiry, videos and lecture to plan and conduct an oral history interview with a Kittitas Band member. If tribal members of the Kittitas are not avaiable for interview, there is a sample video of an interview with Kittitas member Allen Aronica. Students can use this video instead of conducting an oral history interview for the final lesson.

Dynamic heterogeneity for the physical oncologist

Biological systems (e.g. cells) can make stochastic transitions between phenotypes (e.g. states of relatively increased or decreased drug resistance). This means that an initially drug-sensitive population can generate relatively drug-resistant subpopulations. This video presents a metronomogram, which is a tool for understanding whether such stochastic transitions can provide an opportunity for therapeutic treatment. These dynamics course notes were authored by Dr. Elizabeth Croft (currently at Monash University (elizabeth.croft@monash.edu) in 2004, and converted for open licensing (including figure creation) in 2019 by Dr. Agnes d'Entremont (adentremont@mech.ubc.ca) from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (https://mech.ubc.ca).

The notes (are designed to be used for a second-year dynamics course in Mechanical Engineering, and cover planar rigid-body dynamics and an introduction to one degree-of-freedom vibrations. The order of topics has vibrations earlier in the series than typical, due to their use in an integrated course. This order matches the course timing of related ordinary differential equation solutions in the integrated mathematics and electric circuits courses.

These notes are intended to be skeleton notes, with substantial portions (diagrams, derivations, solutions) written in by students along with their instructor. Completed notes are included. PDF notes plus original LaTeX code and editable images (Powerpoint) are available at the link.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based conversational method that helps promote behavior change in youth and adults. MI is used in diverse behavioral health and primary care settings to engage clients in change; and providers are finding important applications for this powerful approach. The child welfare system has found MI useful for engaging in change conversations; and MI is has been effective in working with pre-teens; adolescents; emerging adults and adults in the child welfare system. MI can be used in a number of child welfare settings; including differential response teams; schools; criminal justice environments; foster/kinship care; behavioral health centers and others. In this workshop; the central motivational interviewing concepts will be reviewed; and participants will have opportunities to practice discrete and powerful interventions that demonstrate important concepts of the model.

One project focus is Wraparound for probation youth exhibiting delinquency risk factors that put them at risk of entering foster care. This workshop offers an overview of the project, the state’s Wraparound intervention and intersecting project outcome changes with Wraparound.
