Maine's Lobster Fishing Community Confronts Their Changing Climate
Read the Fine Print
Rating

Over the past 40 years, some lobstermen in South Thomaston, Maine, say that they could "set their watches” by the start of the lobster shedding event each season. In 2012, though, extreme warm ocean temperatures—an ocean heat wave—combined with early and repeated lobster shedding. The obvious changes in lobsters during this event galvanized many lobstermen to take the impacts of climate change seriously.

There are two types of energy sources. One is renewable and the other is non-renewable. In renewable source, the substance which is used for production of energy is not consumed, but remains the same as it was before the production of energy, while in non-renewable source of energy the fuel substance is consumed and its chemical compostion is changed. Examples of non-renewable anergy are fissile material, coal, oil, gas, and wood, while examples of renewable energy sources are wind, flowing water, geothermal energy etc. The primitive means of energy are wood, and fissil fuel energy. Primitive sources of energy caused excessive green house gases, which are harmful for atmosphereand. Due to the excessive use of the fossil fuel energy, it caused harms to the environment. The world is trying to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel/ non-renewable sources. Growing dependence on Solar, Wind, Hydropower, geothermal energy (renewable) is a hope to achieve a clean and healthy environment. https://geostudies.org/energy-resouces/

This is a simple assignment for students in an introductory course on global health, by Dr. Jennifer Infanti (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). The students are divided into small groups. Working in the groups, they have 48 hours to present “solutions” to an assigned topic: to increase contraceptive use in rural areas of low-income countries. The groups each present their solutions to an evaluating committee and give peer feedback as well. Suggested evaluation criteria for teachers/assessors is also attached. After completing this assignment students will be able to:Describe various reproductive health problems occurring during the different stages in life (childhood, adolescence, adulthood).Identify, for each stage, hindrances to optimal sexual and reproductive health including socio-economic, family and health care factors.Suggest short- and long-term actions which could be implemented to improve reproductive health at different levels in low-resource settings (with a gender perspective).
