Esse produto educacional foi desenvolvido com intuito de elaborar um manual de como construir uma horta sustentável no espaço escolar, contendo a instalação de um sistema de captação de água da chuva e a implantação de uma composteira no solo. A base para a feitura desse produto ancora-se em uma experiência de pesquisa-ação edificada com o desenvolvimento de uma horta orgânica na Escola Municipal Nilza de Oliveira Pipino que, por sua vez, ajudou na confecção dessa proposta de como construir uma horta sustentável para a comunidade escolar sem a utilização de agrotóxicos e adubos químicos. Além disso, busca-se estimular uma alimentação saudável e orgânica para os alunos na merenda escolar. Segundo Lima (2014), o consumo de alimento orgânico no ambiente escolar propicia ao aluno a garantia de uma alimentação saudável, ofertando assim, inúmeros benefícios a saúde. Dessa maneira, a importância em desenvolver o produto educacional voltado para a construção de hortas escolares, dinamizando dessa maneira, desafios possíveis que a escola ou as demais entidades interessadas possam encontrar no processo de implantação de uma horta e na manutenção da mesma em todas as etapas de seu desenvolvimento. De acordo com Gonçalves, Malheiros e Campos (2013), a construção de hortas orgânicas na escola incentiva os professores a trabalharem com diversas temáticas e, ao mesmo tempo, estimula o aluno a uma alimentação saudável. Por fim, observa-se que este produto educacional foi estruturado basicamente com o planejamento de doze etapas; partindo da escolha do local do terreno na escola até o processo de desenvolvimento das hortaliças.
