This is a Bridge 21 style project during which students who are learning a target language connect with students who are native speakers in the target langauge. They collaborate to create an instructional video on a tourist destination in the target country. The project was completed in the study of Chinese language and culture but could work in any MFL classroom.
This survey instrument is designed to understand how creators use (or decide not to use) Creative Commons licenses. The target survey participants are people who create materials for documentation, maintenance, instruction, learning, and/or revitalization of Indigenous, minority, endangered, and/or low-resourced languages. Part 1 of this survey is designed to learn about the digital creation formats and sharing practices in this specific community of practice. Parts 2 through 4 of this survey contain general questions intended to elicit information about research participants’ knowledge and awareness of Creative Commons (CC) licenses; understanding of how to apply CC licenses to their digital creations; interest in and experience with applying CC licenses to their digital creations; motivations for and barriers to applying CC licenses to their digital creations; and understanding of how to adapt or reuse digital creations licensed with CC licenses.
This survey can be easily adapted for use in other communities of practice by editing some of the questions and multiple-choice responses.

Creative Translation for Real-World Contexts is one of the first translation textbooks designed for Spanish/English speakers at an intermediate-high (B2) level. This book introduces students to the basic ideas of translation while addressing frequent pain points that recur when working bidirectionally. Additionally, a focus is placed on fostering metacognitive skills by encouraging creative translation from real-world environments such as narration, business, advertising, specialized contexts (including inclusive and queer language), and in situations when there are no clear translations available, such as sci-fi and fantasy works. Chapters alternate between Spanish and English as the languages of discussion, thus providing an equitable challenge for native speakers of both languages.

Critical Language Service offers playlists with video lessons that explain the material in Alif Baa, Al-Kitaab 1 (through lesson 11), and a series on Egyptian vocabulary. Videos designed for the Alif Baa series focus on stories to illustrate new vocabulary while the series designed for Al-Kitaab explains grammatical concepts introduced in the books, and demonstrate proper pronunciation. They also offer a playlist of 60 cartoon episodes in Arabic.
This course is an intermediate subject designed to help students gradually build an in-depth understanding of France. The course focuses on French attitudes and values regarding education, work, family and institutions, and deals with the differing notions that underlie interpersonal interactions and communication styles, such as politeness, friendship and formality. Using a Web comparative, cross-cultural approach, students explore a variety of French and American materials, then analyze and compare them using questionnaires, opinion polls, news reports (in different media), as well as a variety of historical, anthropological and literary texts. Throughout the course, attention is given to the development of relevant linguistics skills. This course is recommended for students planning to study and work in France and is taught in French.
This project entails lessons an activities that allow students to study the history of Spanish and the countries in which it's spoken. The final product is a cultural celebration event in which students showcase their country's portfolios.

This is a lesson to introduce the concept of culture to novice level Spanish students. Using the analogy of the "cultural iceberg" students take a closer look at what culture is and to which cultures they belong. We go further by taking a look at greetings in their own culture and comparing them to greetings in Spanish-speaking countries. Students are able to define what a typical greeting looks like and what influences how those greeting rituals look on the surface. Cultural Interviews with Japanese-Speaking Executives is a compilation of brief video clips in which Japanese and Japanese-speaking executives discuss cultural issues that are of interest to North Americans. The objective of the interviews is three-fold: First, provide practical cultural information about business topics. The opinions represent those of real people. At times they are even contradictory, but they are designed to be a catalyst for discussion, not a definitive answer about some stereotype. Second, the interviews provide vocabulary in areas within a professional setting. The interviews present diverse vocabulary within the context of each individual's comments. Third, these materials provide non-native speakers of Japanese with multiple examples of natural speech, illustrating the way that speakers really talk.

This listening activity will allow students to spot the vocabulary of tourism they have already encountered and memorized during the previous part of the lesson and in their homework, but this time in an authentic document. In terms of intercultural competence, students will learn or expand their knowledge of tourism in Canada, and particularly in the province of Manitoba where thousands of people (including indigenous communities) speak French or a mixed language containing elements of French. Students will also have time to discuss and reflect on the role of tourism in the reconciliation process in Manitoba, in Canada in general, and in other countries/areas they may know about.
CultureTalk - Arab World features a very extensive selection of filmed interviews with people from different countries in the Arabic speaking world. While some interviews are in English, the vast majority are in Arabic. Translations and usually transcripts are provided for all non-English video clips.
