Antarctic Expedition involves a multi-issue negotiation between two university professors over resources for a proposed joint expedition to the Antarctic. Antarctic Expedition encompasses key negotiation concepts such as the best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA), the worst alternative to a negotiated agreement (WATNA) and the zone of possible agreement (ZOPA). Students are also invited to examine the role of principled negotiation, and the applicability of standards and criteria. This simulation has been designed for third level students studying negotiation. Whilst it can be used at an introductory level, it is suggested that it is most appropriate for students who have already been introduced to fundamental negotiation concepts.Teaching Notes include General Instructions, Confidential Instructions for Andy Balfe and Confidential Instructions for Gerry Hopkins.

Abstract

Professional Development (PD) is a process which helps teachers to maintain the quality and efficiency of teaching by improving their skills and updating their knowledge. However, many countries are not able to carry out professional development for their teachers due to many reasons. Issues such as budget and releasing teachers are challenges faced by many countries. The government of Maldives gives a high priority, for improving the standard of teaching and strongly accepts that the quality of teaching can be improved when school-based professional development (SBPD) of teachers is institutionalized in the school system.

The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) strives to support the schools to established SBPD across the nation. Under the Ministry of Education’s professional development policy, a government policy, it is required for every teacher to complete a minimum of 15 hours of professional development every year. These PD hours are conducted by schools as SBPD. Three days are allocated in the academic calendar to conduct PD.
The purpose of this research is to assess the impact of professional development programs carried out in a secondary school on teaching and learning.

This activity contains three case studies which allow students to evaluate situations that are considered when budgeting. The students will create budgets for the individuals in the cases as part of this assignment.

This activity uses mini cases to help develop some problem- solving skills in relation to budgeting. Situational analysis allows students to role play and help the person in the case figure out how to budget and deal with their financial decisions. Cases allow for students to role play in real life scenarios that they may experience in their future.

A project developed by Cornell College’s KIN-200, Athletes and Activism class.  Authored by Caitlin Babcock, Alec Boldt, Cristian Dixon, Megan Gandrup, Olivia Henkel, MacKenzie Macam, Caitlyne Mar, Kali March, Alexis Partida, Ilah Perez-Johnson, Mary Puffett, Kara Rivard, Julissa Rivera, and Delaney Thomas; edited by Professor Christi Johnson. Because of the power that sports have to shape our understandings of everyday life, we explore the stories of athletes who became activists related to social justice causes.  These athletes used their platforms to advocate for positive social change.  We summarize and share their stories here.  In addition to describing their athletic pursuits, our summaries of their stories include key terms, concepts, and definitions related to socially just causes.  We also include short video overviews of the athletes' sporting lives and social activism.
