This guide is intended for the Fellows of the School Librarians Advancing STEM Learning project. It includes the tasks and timeline for the Fellows work, as well as links to resources and documents tied to the Fellowship role.

Students are going to be working in an Engineering Design team to create a car using K’Nex pieces. They will work through 3 iterations of design in a goal to have their car travel 600 CM. They will use a ramp (defined in the lesson) to have their car gain momentum. They will also create a 3D Printed wheel to be attached to their design and determine if this has improved their design.

This activity can be used after reading Chapter 5 of The Great Gatsby. Listening and watching the video for Lana Del Rey's song, and title track for the film, students will dig deep into the lyrics of the song identifying figurative language, draw connections between the lyrics of the song and direct quotes from the text, and have meaningful discussion about point-of-view and symbolism in the video. The intimate look at the POV world of migrant workers in action, GoPro and virtual learning platforms together have the power to illuminate cultural, social, and political issues for students and teachers alike.
