Students will learn how to produce their own sounds to add to their video projects. This technique is called Foley Art. There are several excellent videos that can be shown during class or assigned as a flipped assignment. Either way, these videos should draw great discussion during class on how to capture homemade produced sounds. Some of the videos I use come from YouTube and are titled "The Magic of Making Sound," "This Artist Creates Sounds for Movies," "How the Sound Effects in 'A Quiet Place' Were Made," "Foley Artists: How Movie Sound effects are Made," and "The Hunger Games & Frozen Foley Artists Turn the Sound of Junk into Miracles--Art of Sound Ep. 3." Simply do a search for Foley Art. After the discussion, students will then select a movie trailer, convert the trailer into a file format that works with their video editing software. Once the file is uploaded into their software, students will remove/detach the audio and begin brainstorming appropriate sound effects and how these can be made for the video. Students should compile a list of at least 10 sound effects. After all students have their lists, divided the students into groups. I find that it is necessary to have more than one person in order to effectively produce the sounds. Once students are in their groups, combine their lists, and come up with 10 sounds they think they can personally produce. Students will need to brainstorm props that can be used to produce their sounds. Once the sounds have been created, each student will then add, trim, and edit the sounds and add to the movie trailer.
After the last day of editing, the students will come back together with their group and show their video to the class. Students should explain how sounds were created.
This lesson geared towards adult learners focuses on reading informative texts that describe how to perform basic computer-related tasks, including saving a document in Word and sending an email attachment. After reading the informative texts, learners will identify and sequence the 5 or more key steps needed to complete the tasks. They will then follow the steps to execute the tasks. This lesson will prepare learners to effectively find key information about how to complete technological tasks and be able to carry out the steps independently. This will assist them when future educational or job requirements require the use of computer skills they do not yet have, and they will need to use informational texts to learn the new skills.
This lesson also enables students to gain confidence in their ability to use their mobile devices for carrying out more sophisticated tasks.

Students will be able to recognize family member classifications (i.e. abuela=grandma), describe family members, and accurately use vocabulary related to families. They will need to acquire information about another individual’s family and will practice describing their own family members. They will need to acquire information about a classmate’s family and they will practice describing that classmate’s family members.
In this lab, students will practice expressing their likes and dislikes in reference to food. Students will also practice identifying ingredients in certain dishes.
This activity lists four different online discussion thread activities for students who are studying food borne illness and food safety practices.
This lesson will introduce food borne illnesses to students.

This lesson was created by School Library Media Specialist, Pam Harland, and Math teachers Rebecca Hanna and Carissa Maskwa to model text-based inquiry in STEM. Over the course of the unit, students will explore a variety of texts and grow in their knowledge of fractals, city design, and ability to use informational text to support their inquiry and research. The unit was created in year two of the School Librarians Advancing STEM Learning (SLASL) project, led by the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management (ISKME) in partnership with Granite State University, New Hampshire, and funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Students will practice introducing themselves, greeting someone, and answering how they are doing. They will also learn greetings for different times of the day. Students will understand the cultural importance of la bise, how this particular form of greeting differs in distinct areas of France, and deepen their cultural insights into how to perform a ubiquitous French greeting. Students will also learn about the geopolitical divisions in France.

The intended audience includes adult learners (Grade Level D) seeking basic reading skill development. Learners will imagine that they are entering a new field of employment. They are given written information that contain new terminology specific to their occupation. Using a range of strategies, learners will determine or clarify the meaning of specific words as they are used in a specific technical context. This lesson will help learners to gain vocabulary related to an occupation of interest in order to build knowledge to prepare for a career.
In this 6th grade Science class, students learn how to build a compost pile, learn about organisms needed for decomposition, and begin to understand the purpose of compost in the garden.
This template supports the Genetics Learning Challenge Winners in designing and authoring their proposed lesson ideas for how they are reimagining the way we teach and study genetics.
