The Malaysia Sustainable Cities Practicum is an intensive field-based course that brings 15 graduate students to Malaysia to learn about and analyze sustainable city development in five cities in Malaysia. The students in the Practicum will help determine the extent to which these efforts have been successful. They will identify specific projects or policy-making efforts that the following year’s cohort of International Visiting Scholars can examine more closely.

This course on global integration brings together matters of global markets and institutions, global strategy, organization, and leadership. Global integration, the process by which an organization with units around the world becomes united, will be presented as a link to entrepreneurship and general management. The seminar is offered only to those enrolled in the MIT Sloan Fellows Program and challenges the participants to draw upon their past managerial experiences, especially those affiliated with multinational companies.

Mapping mangroves is a project dedicated to preservation and understanding of the world's mangrove forests. Through the use of Ushahidi, an open source project that allows for users to crowdsource data, participants will report their findings.

Looking for a project for middle school-age students? This project-based learning experience will allow students to solve the problem of excess beeswax, a byproduct of honey bees, by developing a useful beeswax product and marketing their product to be sold in a local boutique or farmers market. This is a great way to drum up business and interest with students and the community in preparation for starting your own Bee Club! This lesson has step-by-step instructions and how-to documents to help the educator facilitate the process.  

This course consists of 4 modules and is designed  to help government, professionals in multiple disciplines and community organizations understand the fast-emerging field of natural asset management.

Students will be able to exchange information about recycling, the environment, and animals around the world. Students will learn how to describe nature and explain their opinions regarding the environment. Students will also be able to communicate with others and present their opinions to the rest of the class on their ideas on nature.

This class examines the relationship between the study of natural history, both domestic and exotic, by Europeans and Americans, and exploration and exploitation of the natural world, focusing on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

This customized independent study course puts Sloan Fellows MBA students into direct contact with innovators tackling global needs in education, healthcare, and energy/environment. Co-designed projects address low-income markets in the U.S. or globally, focusing on the application of new ideas and technology rooted in MIT innovations or the Boston ecosystem. Every project aims to develop better ways for the right innovations to reach scale, sustainability, and quality, thereby improving lives and uncovering opportunities in underserved markets.

Students will have the opportunity to work in groups and investigate the effects of an “oil spill” in a water body. In a simulated “ocean” (a pan of water), students will drop a small amount of oil into the water and see the effects and interaction. In an introduction to the workshop, students discuss sources of pollution and oil contamination in water bodies – from point sources (tanker spills) and non-point sources (vehicle run-off). A brief discussion on preventing and cleaning up oil contamination will lead into the activity, in which the students will use a variety of materials to see what method works best for recovering the most oil from the water.

With the rate at which we are depleting the environment and all that it has to offer, nothing is going to be left to survive on. That is why it is important for the younger generation to know the current issues about our environment. In this way they would be able to save our environment.Not only that we would be able to make a change and make our environment a better place.

Our Problem-Based Learning Project focuses on an area that combines both Social Studies, specifically government, and Science, specifically biology, that asks the question, "What role does the government have in preserving/protecting the environment?" Students are required to research different sides of the government, Democrat and Republican, what their views are on preserving the environment, how the government protects the environment, and what they, the student, personally thinks about how the government should preserve/protect the environment.

The goal of the fifth grade Forests: Forest Ecosystem Benefits storyline is to build on students’ previous knowledge of plant/animal needs, ecosystems, and protection of Earth’s resources. In this storyline students develop an understanding of forest ecosystems, tree benefits including carbon sequestration, and what trees need to grow/gain mass.
