Welcome to the El Camino College EMT program! Emergency Medical Technicians are professional medical responders that work to help ill and injured patients in various emergency field and clinical settings. EMT principles that are covered throughout this course include, but are not limited to: leadership, followership, communication, safety, situational awareness, basic life support (BLS), patient assessment and professionalism. EMT students learn about the practices and procedures for treating medical illnesses and traumatic injuries through facilitated discussion, skills lab, simulations, scenarios and field experience. Students who successfully complete all 170 hours with an overall grade of 80% (B) or better will qualify to take the NREMT test for certification. Once the NREMT is completed, the student would be eligible for a state EMT license.

This could serve as a first unit for any writing intensive online course, and it would work especially well in a first year composition coursel

This assignment uses to the story of Mulan to explore what is fact and what is fiction in Han China. The assignment asks students to consider the Disney version of Mulan and how this portrayal affects the accuracy of a Chinese folk story and specifically the story's Confucian values. 

The Factoring module is separated into two parts -- factoring numbers and factoring algebraic expressions.  Each part has subtopics. In this project, students interview a family member about why they immigrated to the United States (or a person who might know the story). The student then places this story into world history and explains the push and pull factors that the family experienced. The student will be writing a biography for the family member in a historical context.

The goal of this scaffolded project is for students to research their own family immigration history looking into the reasons they left their home country and why they chose to settle in the United States. The project requires the student to do multiple stages of research, including an interview, origin country research, US research, and geographic research before handing in a final project in a choice of format – essay, poster board or website – to connect family immigration, and US History to world history events.

This assignment asks students to make meaningful connections between the past and their family/neighborhood history by conducting an interview of / researching a relative, gathering and organizing evidence of a historical moment / theme that has impacted that relative, and presenting their findings through art (graphic novel/ comic strips) or writing (narrative/poem).

Children in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families are invited to learn more about the field of engineering in this hour-long special program. Family Night: Engineering introduces children to cool careers within the field of engineering that range from building roller coasters to designing artificial heart pumps for children who need them. Children will also get a chance to participate in hands-on engineering activities during the program!

In this activity, students will work together to interview one another to construct family trees. Students will pair off and ask one another a series of interview questions and draw their partners family tree. Students will then introduce their partners family to other classmates.

Utilizing a culturally responsive lens, this course focuses on strategies for developing family and community partnerships to benefit young children ages birth-5th grade of all abilities. Theories and research that support family-centered practices are explored with a focus on highlighting BIPoC authors and researchers. This course takes a family-centered perspective and emphasizes the role of collaborative planning with families and caregivers to create an inclusive environment.

This course is designed as a six week asynchronous online course. The weekly video supports students by providing the flexibility to stop and start the video. This can be a supportive tool for students who might not have uninterrupted time to absorb content. The paired slides also provide a visual support which aids various types of learning styles. The Reading Evidence assignment is student centered which allows each student to explore and identify a system that works best for them. Which supports the modeling of a Universal Design for Learning strategy that students can utilize in their own setting. Lastly, the learning activities are designed to be "field ready" tools that allow students to utilize their classwork as tangible real world tools for family and community partnerships.

Students will be placed into groups and assigned a historical figure in education. Together, students will research the individual(s) and create a presentation that will inform the audience on the life and career of this individual. NOTE: This happens after we discuss education of BIPOC peoples in the United States.
