Coalbed methane (CH4) is a natural gas and valuable energy resource that occurs in coal beds. This site, hosted by an energy development corporation, explains the geology and stratigraphy of Wyoming in the context of the formation of coalbed methane and its occurrence in Wyoming. Maps, cross sections, stratigraphic columns and fence diagrams are provided to explain Cretaceous and Tertiary coalbed methane-plays in Wyoming.

Methane emissions from coal mines are a significant concern for greenhouse gas reduction. Certain mines, known as "superemitters," contribute a large proportion of global methane emissions. Factors like mine depth and coal rank affect methane content. While reducing coal use in electricity generation is important, mitigating methane emissions from mines needs greater attention.

Cocaine afflicts many individuals and is potently addictive. Originally hailed as a wonder-drug in the late 19th century, cocaine is now considered an illegal substance. Cocaine’s addictive properties can be attributed to changes in the dopamine reward pathway of the Ventral Tegmental Area and Substantia Nigra, Prefrontal Cortex, Dorsal Striatum, Nucleus Accumbens, Amygdala, Globus Pallidus, and Hippocampus. This drug affects the brain in two processes: binge and crave. The binge process highlights cocaine’s ability to block dopamine reuptake from the synapse resulting in hyperstimulation of the postsynaptic neuron in the dopamine reward pathway. The crave process promotes drug-seeking behavior through conditional and contextual cues. Understanding the effects of cocaine in the brain may grant insight in creating future medication and therapies to treat individuals addicted to this drug.

The title refers to Whig candidate Zachary Taylor as the probable victor in the 1848 presidential contest. Taylor is portrayed as a victorious fighting cock, standing over his dead opponent, another cock with the head of Democratic candidate Lewis Cass. Taylor crows, "Cru-e-ruk-ruk-ru have you any more of the kind on hand?" Feathers are strewn about in the foreground; a lake or river and large mountains appear in the distance. Nearby lies a second defeated cock, Free Soil party candidate Martin Van Buren. At the far right a fourth rooster, Liberty party candidate John Hale, flees, exclaiming, "I'm off in time!" Hale's flight may symbolize the candidate's exit from the campaign, which was prompted by Van Buren's nomination by a coalition of Liberty party abolitionists, Barnburner Democrats, and antislavery Whigs in August 1848.|Probably drawn by E.F.

Do you sometimes feel that you do not belong in this program, or some of its courses? The instructors assure you that you do belong! To help combat that sense of imposter syndrome that you might be feeling, let's explore the notion that your cognitive styles of learning are similar to your peers' learning styles.
You may already know that OSU and other universities have studied course materials and technical tools to make improvements that level the playing field amongst you and your peers. Programs such as Cognitive Style Heuristics and GenderMag/InclusiveMag study differences in how people problem-solve while learning new technical skills. The projects' core methods of finding bias bugs in software and materials is to apply personas that represent different sets of cognitive facets.
Explore the Facets and Personas by clicking on the tabs at the top, then analyze which persona fits you best, by taking the Survey.

Caricature of John or Jonathan Pluck, an illiterate hostler elected Colonel of the 84th Pennsylvania militia in a controversial 1824 election. He is shown here marching toward the left, raising a sword inscribed "Ducit amor patria." According to Nancy Halli of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, several articles appeared in the "Democratic Press" and "United States Gazette" following his outrageous militia parade in May 1825, and could have inspired the print. In the background is a crowd of militia troops armed with tree branches and brooms. One man holds aloft a flag emblazoned with a man milking a cow; another flag shows two men sawing a log. A black youth rides by on a pig, saying "Hurra for de Pennsylwamy light infamy." He is followed by a barefoot militiaman riding a cow. Below the title are the verses: "I could not stir, / But like a comet, I was wonder'd at; / Others would tell their children "This is he" /Others would say - Where? which is the "Colonel?" / And then I stole all courtesy from heaven, / And dress'd myself in such humility, /That I did PLUCK allegience from mens hearts. Shakspr. The lines come from Shakespeare's "Henry IV," part one.|Signed: D.C. Johnston del. (David Claypool Johnston).|Title appears as it is written on the item.|Johnson, "D. C. "The drug colistin is considered the “last resort” treatment for infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. However, bacterial resistance to colistin is becoming increasingly prevalent, posing a public health threat. To help determine how to address this problem, researchers recently examined a highly colistin- resistant strain of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. a Gram-negative opportunistic pathogen. The researchers identified a colistin-degrading protease (Cdp) in the strain and confirmed its role in resistance. In coculture experiments with the colistin-susceptible bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, S. maltophilia inactivated colistin via Cdp and thereby protected P. aeruginosa from the antibiotic. This suggests that Cdp-mediated resistance might substantially limit colistin’s efficacy against polymicrobial infections, such as cystic fibrosis, even if some of the microbes present are sensitive to colistin..."

"Uncontrolled hypertension is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Despite available treatments, less than half of those with hypertension have optimal blood pressure control, with that percentage continuing to go down. Self-measured blood pressure monitoring (or SMBP) with clinical supports is one effective way of controlling blood pressure. Unfortunately, in the US, as few as 25% of adults with hypertension measure their blood pressure at home, and even fewer follow an [evidence-based protocol] to take regular home measurements and share them with their care team. Limited use of SMBP is due to a variety of barriers that both patients and their health care provider teams encounter. In search of ways to improve these poor statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Association of Community Health Centers, the YMCA of the USA, and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials conducted a pilot project in nine community health centers across three states..."

This is the Output of Etwinning Project TwinSite. The purpose of our project is to encourage the students who participate in the learning process in English course. Also, our aim is to improve their skills in English and provide to take an interest in learning English. These activities will be issued online via web 2.0 tools. We are going to record videos, take photos, create learning materials, logos, blogs, have video conferences, share materials on Twinspace, disseminate and evaluate the project by working collaboratively. Then, we will collect them into a Web Twinsite.
