This video module presents an introduction to cryptography - the method of sending messages in such a way that only the intended recipients can understand them. In this very interactive lesson, students will build three different devices for cryptography and will learn how to encrypt and decrypt messages. There are no prerequisites for this lesson, and it has intentionally been designed in a way that can be adapted to many audiences. This is a lesson on finding the difference between an implicit and explicit function and finding the derivative of functions implicitly. It also covers finding the equation of a tangent line from a function in implicit form . There are self check throughout the lesson. The text that I use in my calculus class is Larson Calculus 11th edition. This corresponds to chapter 2 section 5 in that text but Implicit Differentiation is a common topic in any Calculus I or AP Calculus course.

This lesson introduces solar energy and tasks students with solving an algebraic equation to determine the amount of daily sunlight needed to make a solar panel effective.

Step 1 - Inquire: Students work through a practice problem and discuss what they already know about solar energy.

Step 2 - Investigate: Students briefly learn some background information about solar energy and then use algebra to calculate the amount of peak sun hours needed to make a solar panel effective. Students compare their calculated values to real-world data to determine if this amount of sunlight is possible in their area.

Step 3 - Inspire: Students make predictions and discuss if they think their home could be powered by solar panels using the calculations from class as evidence.

This College Algebra textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts of algebra, with a unique focus on the concept of inverses. The textbook begins with an exploration of the foundational principles of functions, including domain, range, and the vertical line test. It progresses through critical topics such as operations on functions, composition of functions, and the algebra of functions, ensuring students grasp the fundamental building blocks necessary for more complex algebraic thinking.Several times the teaching diverges from how the subject is commonly taught. Examples include absolute value, determining the inverse of a function, and completing the square. The text is as devoid of "gimmicks" or "tricks" as possible, leaning on the fundamentals of good algebra.
