The students will learn that the Constitution provides the guidance for the branches of the government. They will analyze the first three articles and then research the duties and requirements of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the U.S. Government. Students will then examine the branches of the state government.

Students learn about the skeletal system, what it needs to function, how it changes as we grow, what parts make up the stystem, and what problems affect the system. The students will then use this knowledge to create a skeleton using the material available to them in the classroom.

The Tuskegee Airmen played a pivotal role in World War II while battling prejudice and segregation to African Americans. This lesson will allow students to research and examine various primary source documents to learn what contributions the Tuskegee Airmen made to American society. Students will listen and read about the Tuskegee Airmen through research and videos while providing evidence to various guided questions. The students will then create journal entries as to what it might have been like to be a member of this famous group on their first day of training and on their first flight mission.

Students will examine various primary source images and documents to develop research questions and make connections. They will then research historical figures to learn about contributions and significance they had to the movement. As they research, students will also learn about what individual slaves did before and after the Civil War and if emancipation changed their lives. The students will then examine various primary source documents and record their findings on the Analyzing a Written Document worksheet. They will then paraphrase what the document was about and explain why they believe it is important to history.

Students will learn the process a case goes through to get to the Supreme Court and why some cases are determined to be landmark cases. Students will research various landmark cases in history and examine why the case was important and how it relates to the Constitution or one of the Amendments. The students will then select one of the landmark cases and act it out in class. Students who portray the judges will use their own opinions to determine the case and then the group will discuss if the decision is the same as the original case or if it was different and what significance today's world played in that decision.
