In response to school closures due to COVID-19, OSPI content experts have curated a selection of links to external organizations providing high-quality online educational materials – courses, lessons, videos, physical and outdoor activity suggestions, etc. Please note that in many cases, these resources are free to use online but are not openly licensed for wide scale reuse and adaptation.
We’re excited to announce a partnership between the public television stations across Washington and OSPI. Your local public television station is helping support educators, parents and caregivers with a variety of free high-quality, accessible educational media resources. The PBS KIDS 24/7 channel and PBD KIDS programming on the main channel (for young learners ages 2-8) and the WORLD channel At-Home Learning Service (for learners grades 6-12) feature broadcast programming linked to at-home learning resources that can be used by educators to supplement distance learning plans, or by parents to provide added enrichment and support for children’s educational needs. With both channels available free over the air, these educational programs can reach families who do not have internet access or computers at home.

Students take a close look at nickels and quarters commemorating many of the proudest moments in our country and in the seven states that make up the Federal Reserve's Eighth District. 25 Cents Worth of History is the second student activity book in "The Piggy Bank Primer" series. Young fans of Pig E. Bank will enjoy this new activity book, designed for students ages 8-10 who take a close look at nickels and quarters commemorating many of the proudest moments in our country and in the seven states that make up the Eighth District of the Federal Reserve. Other topics include the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Mint and the history and resources of Eighth District states. Activities include: designing a state coin, matching the "fun facts" with the correct state, locating Fed branch cities on a map and determining which states are endowed with particular natural resources. You'll learn something fun and interesting with each turn of a page.
Polyup is a math education app available freely on the web. With the goal of instilling creative problem solving and computational thinking skills into K-12 students, Polyup allows students to play with numbers and functions in a freeform environment.

The Practicing Musician site provides multi-media resources and methods that help K-12 educators flip their classrooms, personalize instruction within ensemble programs, and facilitate mastery learning for all students. Their mission is to empower and collaborate with music educators and artists to create a free world-class music education that meets the needs of all K-12 students.

The activities in this weekly reading routine from Student Achievement Partners (Achieve the Core website) are designed to support growth in all three areas of reading fluency (accuracy, rate, and expression). Detailed guidance is given on how to implement the routine during in-person (or virtual synchronous learning), virtual asynchronous learning, or limited access/technology situations.

As schools close their doors as part of public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, educators are faced with how to support the diverse needs of all learners when students are not in school. This guide recognizes that solutions will not be – nor should be – “school as usual,” simply delivered in a virtual environment. Instead, this resource was developed by members of the Council of State Science Supervisors to provide guidance around how to support student science learning during these unique circumstances. The Office of Head Start contracted to create the Early Childhood Learning & Knowledge Center as a repository to support all Head Start Program Guidelines. In this section, four briefs support Head Start programs and other early learning partners, including school districts, to create smooth transitions for children and families. Each brief focuses on a level of the transition: children and families, early educators (teachers, family child care owners, assistant teachers or paraeducators), early childhood education partners (school districts, state preschool, centers, and homes), or programs/ policies/ practices (alignment, tools).
Teaching Strategies is also developing free resources through Ready Rosie™ that will include interviews with experts on how families can stay healthy and safe, how to support children’s emotional well-being during the pandemic, and some fun activities families can do at home that support learning and overall well-being. More information on these resources will be shared with you this week.
