Una colección de textos para el debate

Short Description:

Long Description:

Multilingual Making in a Second-Language Poetry Club
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC
Rating
0.0 stars

This OER is a culmination of conversations, pedagogical practices, and ways of being together that developed as a collaboration between co-authors Borbala Gaspar (bgaspar@arizona.edu) and Chantelle Warner (warnerc@arizona.edu) and the engaged group of students who took part in a year-long series of extracurricular gatherings, which served as an exploratory space for the ideas shared in this handbook. The poetry club evolved from the authors’ shared desire to create a space adjacent to the classrooms in their language programs (Italian and German respectively) where students could explore the aesthetic and affective endeavor of language learning, rooted in the human capacity for exploring alternative ways of making sense of themselves, the world, and their experiences within it.
This handbook is intended as a resource for educators who wish to develop a similar extracurricular club or who are looking for inspiration for their classrooms. In the first chapter of the handbook, we introduce you to the background of the project and the current discussions of well-being in higher education. Part two provides an overview of the conceptual underpinnings of multilingual making and poetic play as ways of engaging with language and language learning. Core concepts and principles are outlined, emphasizing the significance of living together in and through languages, and the role of multilingual making when learning a new language. The handbook explores various forms of poetic play, such as collage, response artwork to poetry, clay work and visual representation of poems. It delves into core principles for establishing a multilingual poetry club offering guidance on creating and sustaining such a club. Sample activities illustrate each example including collage, mixed media, limericks, and remarks from the authors and creators of the artworks. Additional resources such as blackout poetry and other ideas that could potentially further engage club members in creative expression are included as well. Finally, this book concludes with reflections and additional resources for educators interested in promoting multilingualism and creativity through poetry.
After reading this handbook, you will be able to…
Identify the key factors that students indicate as influencing their sense of belonging;
Define and discuss key concepts and terms related to playful poetry and living literacies approach, and relate them to other discussions in the field of second language teaching and learning;
Explore the forms and functions of multimodality and living literacies in the examples;
Reflect on how to apply these ideas into your context.

#OnYGo is an innovative first-year French language e-textbook, designed as Open Educational Resource (OER), for learning beginning French (equivalent to one year at an American university). It is inspired by a remix of task-based, multiliteracies and communicative approaches, which provides students with opportunities to engage with French language and culture in a variety of contexts and situations, across a range of modalities. Through a wide range of activities, students develop and practice their language skills, and reflect on their cross-cultural knowledge and positionality in their understanding of the vast francophone landscape.

#OnYGo is a first-year textbook that takes a DEI-forward approach to the depiction of people, contexts, and concepts. It views language learners, instructors and a wide range of individuals interacting in French as belonging to a large multilingual and francophone community. It recognizes multilingualism and multiculturalism in all its forms, and showcases French speakers with a variety of backgrounds and relationships to the French language. The cultural and pedagogical materials in this collection have been selected for their authenticity and diverse representation of French speakers on the five continents, and are thus purposely inclusive of gender, sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity.

Paris Through the Pages is the culminating project for an advanced level undergraduate French course that explores the images of Paris in literary works from the 17th to 20th centuries. As an open source book, it is intended to be re-used, revised, and repurposed by undergraduate students and academics in French studies. The students who participated in this project spent a semester reading works by French authors from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, integrating them within their historical and cultural contexts. Given that the majority of the semester was spent introducing students to these authors and works, the students could only spend the final few weeks refining their research on a particular author and creating a chapter in groups that represented the literary images of Paris from a particular era. Although the students wrote and revised several versions of their individual articles, they have established a foundation of research for other classes and students to explore, expand, and revise themselves. The hope is to create a book that other French classes—at Muhlenberg and elsewhere—can build from and expand the thematic approach and literary perspectives.
