Author's Purpose
This resource was created by Cindy Sellhorst, in collaboration with Lynn Bowder, as part of ESU2's Mastering the Arts project. This project is a four year initiative focused on integrating arts into the core curriculum through teacher education and experiential learning.
This plan was created by Jean Harper as part of the 2020 ESU-NDE Learning Plan Project. Educators worked with coaches to create plans.The attached plan is designed for Grade 5th English Language Arts students. Students will analyze and evaluate the elements of literary text, build background knowledge to clarify text and deepen understanding, and use relevant evidence from a variety of sources to assist in analysis and reflection of complex text. This plan addresses the following NDE Standard: NE LA 5.1.6.a, LA 5.1.6.d, LA 5.1.6.k, LA 5.1.6.nIt is expected that this plan will take students 60 minutes to complete.

This Remote Learning Plan was created by Anne Upp in collaboration with Rick Meyer as part of the 2020 ESU-NDE Remote Learning Plan Project. Educators worked with coaches to create Remote Learning Plans as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.The attached Remote Learning Plan is designed for 5th Grade Level ELA students. Students will determine the Authors’ Purpose for a variety of passages and to cite examples from the writing that proves their answer. This Remote Learning Plan addresses the following NDE Standard: LA 5.1.6.aIdentify author's purpose (e.g., explain, entertain, inform, persuade) and recognize how author perspective (e.g., beliefs, assumptions, biases) influences textIt is expected that this Remote Learning Plan will take students 20 minutes per day for 2 days of practice, plus 30 minutes per day for another 5 days for the project to complete.
