Students will discuss the evolution of women's work from the mid-19th century to the present day and then create an artwork depicting women in contemporary times.
Secondary educators across Lebanon County, Pennsylvania developed lesson plans to integrate the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards with the content they teach. This work was made possible through a partnership between the South Central PA Workforce Investment Board (SCPa Works) and Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) and was funded by a Teacher in the Workplace Grant Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. This lesson plan was developed by one of the talented educators who participated in this project during the 2018-2019 school year.
Students explore the concept of work, and work typically assigned to women, through artwork depicting laundresses.
This lesson focuses on people at work depicted in a work of art. Students practice using vocabulary related to people and work. Activities emphasize oral and written descriptions of the people portrayed in the work of art, using job-related vocabulary and adjectives to describe feelings. Students are challenged to infer what job individuals are doing, based on such clues as their pose.
Welcome to this lesson plan about Purposeful Observation! Our audience is recent college graduates entering the workforce for the first time with full-time jobs. This optional workshop may help to minimize feelings of exhaustion, stress, or anxiousness and build a stronger sense of success and community. This two-hour lesson plan incorporates two different instructional strategies in addition to universal design for learning.

Students will research labor unions, keep a photographer's journal, and create a photograph of a worker faced with difficult conditions.
Students will analyze depictions of workers in a drawing and two photographs. They will conduct an interview with a family member and create original drawings about work.
