Using examples from anthropology and sociology alongside classical and contemporary social theory, this course explores the nature of dominant and subordinate relationships, types of legitimate authority, and practices of resistance. The course also examines how we are influenced in subtle ways by the people around us, who makes controlling decisions in the family, how people get ahead at work, and whether democracies, in fact, reflect the “will of the people.”

This dialogue scheme should be used between two students of similar proficiency levels.

In this activity, students will talk about a vacation they would like to take and engage in conversation about traveling. Students will learn words relating to traveling and taking a vacation. They practice speaking to each other about planning a vacation. Students will also express personal opinions and thoughts about their vacation and hotel.

This activity helps students learn about communication competence and improve their computer-mediated communication competence skills.  Students understand the importance of collaboration, team-building skills, and negotiation. The digital game, Minecraft, is used to help students craft better messages.
