This is an an online, mobile-friendly, digital language-learning grammar game collection for students of French created by Sonja Burrows and Brigitte Humbert at Middlebury College. It is a playful learning space, free and open to the public, where one can drop by anytime and from anywhere. The games on the site are divided into three sections: •Sentence Whiz, where users can practice questions, negations, relative pronouns, active and passive voice, and more structures. •Word Nerd, where users can use nouns, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, possessives, prepositions as well as additional parts of speech. •Verb Challenge, where users can master past, present, and future verb tenses as well as tackle conditional, subjunctive, imperatives, and infinitives. In addition, a guide for the learning space supports users who do not know where to begin or who would like to complete games in an established or recommended path. A resources area allows users to access explanations of grammar and, in some sections, traditional grammar exercises which support the games. Relevant sections of the resources area are linked to games which treat the same grammar points, so that users who complete a game and seek more practice or grammar explanations can easily find that needed support. A navigation and filtering system also allows users to select games which only treat a certain grammar point.

It does have a video and handout from PBS LearningMedia which both give permission to be streamed, downloaded, shared, and modified for educational use, The full credit for both are listed within this lesson plan, and they should always be given full credit if used with this lesson. The video includes captions for the audio. This lesson focuses on understanding active and passive verb voice and how to avoid inappropriate shift of voice within clauses of a single sentence. There are group activities for Think-Pair-Share during classroom instruction, as well as individual worksheets that will be graded for completion, not accuracy. This is more for the teacher to determine if there are trends, additional scaffolding needed, or any reteaching before moving forward in the Grammar and Conventions unit.It concludes with a formal writing assessment that will allow the teacher to see how students mastered using active and passive verb voice, as wel as avoiding inappropriate shift of voice within a sentence.

This guide is intended to provide a starting point for you to approach the teaching of writing in your classroom. Good writing will generally feature a mix of sentence types, all of which are structured and punctuated correctly. It is important to note that the choice and mix of sentences in a text should be informed by an understanding of the purpose and audience for the writing. The choice of sentence types may also be influenced by the genre of the writing, which will be informed by the curriculum area for which it is being produced. This is why writing needs to be taught explicitly and systematically, across all year levels and subjects, beginning with the essential foundation of sentences.
