CITOYEN.NE.S is a French language method for the conversation class at the intermediate/ advanced level. Content and activities are built around the concepts of diversity, inclusivity and equity, and engage students to practice French while questioning and participating in the world they live in – to be full citizens whatever their background, their race or their gender identity. As the French spelling of the title indicates, the book embraces écriture inclusive and uses it for instructions and general information for all students.

Students in this course will examine short stories and short novels published in France during the past 20 years, with emphasis on texts related to the dominant social and cultural trends. Themes include the legacy of France’s colonial experience, the re-examination of its wartime past, memory and the Holocaust, the specter of AIDS, changing gender relationships, new families, the quest for personal identity, and immigration narratives. This course is taught in French.

This book entitled « Two Centuries of Protestantism in Haiti (1816-2016): Implementation, Conversion and Secularization » is the result of the symposium of the bicentenary of Protestantism organized by the Institut universitaire de Formation des Cadres (INUFOCAD) from 15 to 17 August 2016. Under the auspices of the Protestant Federation of Haiti (FPH), this scientific event was a space for citizen reflection allowing to take a scientific look around a jubilee religion established in Haiti since 1816. It was an opportunity for academics and researchers to share with the scientific community and leaders of the Protestant sector critical knowledge about this religious phenomenon in order to contribute to the development of the sociology of religion in Haiti.

Enhancing Oral Skills (EOS) is a project aimed to provide French beginners with listening activities available on the University of Nottingham (Ningbo campus) platform WebCT (Virtual Self-Access Centre) for their self-study at the very first stage of their learning.

The activities have been created taking into account the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) developed by the Council of Europe and The UK National Centre for Languages.

Each recording focuses in particular on CEFR/A1 descriptors, and aims at developing learner’s understanding of relevant topics and the related needed vocabulary and some specific grammar points. Recordings are slow and activities are short in order to allow students to concentrate on detailed vocabulary and/or grammar point.

Suitable for study at undergraduate level 1.

At the end of the quarter you will know how to introduce yourself and volunteer basic information, and how to ask questions of others. You will also have some knowledge of French and Francophone cultures and protocols. This class is divided into four modules, which follow the chapters in the textbook. In each module you will be asked to read, write, speak, and listen in French. The class also includes a quarter-long cultural immersion project, in which you will be asked to conduct research on specific aspects of a non-European Francophone country and report your findings to the rest of the class.

#OnYGo is a first-year French language e-textbook, which provides students with opportunities to engage with French language and culture in a variety of contexts and situations. The materials include a wide range of activities to help students develop and practice their language skills and reflect on their cross-cultural knowledge and positionality. Students participate in a JiTT activity where they watch an online video on Tahitian cooking and do self-correcting exercises to check listening comprehension. They then make note of new vocabulary to use during a culture discussion at the next class meeting.
