This is an introductory project that addresses identifying the Elements of Art and Principles of Composition in immediate surroundings and provides these terms a real-time life application. The project is interactive and exploratory, requiring individual observation of a students' physical world. This project can be modified to include more images, changes in grid template and combined to include both Elements and Principles together; incluiding identifying other terms in art such as mediums. The project can be used in an online formatted course or a face to face environment. Including Art Appreciation, Art Orientation, Two-Dimensional Design and Three-Dimensional Design studio courses.

CREATE Animal or Hero Shape Design For this assignment, you will be creating an Animal or Hero design using only shapes and positive and negative space.  Follow the steps below to complete the assignment.Your animal or hero will Include the following features: Use a white sheet of paper. You're drawing needs to fill a regular 8.5x11 size paper or be bigger. Your choice of animal or super hero drawn with only shapesYour shapes will be filled in with black Sharpie or colored in with marker, colored pencil, or paint. Your choice.  Step 1: IntroductionTalk about positive and negative shapes and space in art and it's importance.Find examples of art throught the ages that works with positive an negative space. Find simple examples that make it easier for studetns to see. Have students reaserach an aminal or hero they want to draw and get started on thumbnail sketches.  Step 2: Look through these student examples of artwork using only shapes and positive and negative space to get ideas of what you want to create for your project.

Using the Google Arts and Culture hub, students will visit a Museum of their choice located all around the globe.The student will then find an artwork that speaks to them and write an analictical review using a five step process in assessing artwork. This process is at the core of  developing a basic understanding of Art  and its relation to every Culture and its connection history.Description: Explaining a work of art from an objective point of view, its physical attributes, and formal construction.Analysis: A detailed look at a work of art that combines physical attributes with subjective statements based on the viewer’s reaction to the work.Context: Any historical, religious, or environmental information that surrounds a particular work of art and which helps to understand the work’s meaning.Meaning: A statement of the work’s content. A message or narrative expressed by the subject matter.Judgment: A critical point of view about a work of art concerning its aesthetic or cultural value.Using critical thinking skills, technology and creative inquiry are a few of the important skills developed in this assignment.
