This is a review lesson on author's purpose. There is a short review of the three primary purposes followed by 20 examples. Students read the example to decide which purpose best fits.

The lesson plan is useful for building community in an Adult ESOL class for intermediate and advanced level students. The plan contains icebreakers and a review of adjectives that describe character.

Career Gates: Soft Skills highlights the skills employees need to be successful. These include communication, eye-contact, listening, teamwork, positive attitude, proper handshake, professional appearance and respect. Soft skills are the abilities to get along with others, resolve conflict and work together towards a common goal. These skills can be a strong indicator in why you get a job or why you don't get a job. A desire to learn and an ability to learn, you can advance. Many companies will hire people that have soft skills over someone with more technical skills because technical skills can be taught more easily.

This is a lesson that introduces students to cause and effect in reading passages. It also includes signal words that can assist students in identifying cause and effect. This is the introductory lesson. Extension activity (challenge) allows students to write their own cause and effect statements.

Comparing sales ads for the Shopping Unit for Beginner Adult ESL learners. Using sales ads students will learn how to figure out sale prices, percentage discounts, and final cost of items. They will compare ads from advertisers, compare like items, and find the best price available. Students will learn how to make sentences using comparatives (and superlatives – for higher level ESL learners.)

Digital ESL is a hands-on, paper-first course that teaches beginner English learners digital literacy through guided experimentation on their smartphones. It was designed to maximize hands-on learning opportunities both in and outside the classroom, utilizing students' own smartphone devices. Although originally created for teaching older adult (age 65+) beginner learners of English, it can be used with adults of any age.

Book 1. Beginning grammar book in a 5-level series for ESL students. This is the first of the two books for beginners.

Book 2. High beginning grammar book in a 5-level series for ESL students. This is the second of the two books for beginners.

Book 4. High intermediate grammar book in a 5-level series for ESL students. This is the second of the two books for intermediate students.

Book 3. Low intermediate grammar book in a 5-level series for ESL students. This is the first of the two books for intermediate students.

The purpose of this lesson is for students to practice and improve English conversation, writing, vocabulary, and reading through the lens of the Earth Day holiday (April 22nd). Also, students can brainstorm and share what we can do to preserve the Earth on a global or personal scale.

This curriculum was developed for volunteers working 1:1 with pre-literate ESL students. All materials are ready-made and available digitally through dropbox or google drive. This curriculum is organized by 13 instructional themes that are relevant and authentic to adults of any age, with a special focus on learners who are 65+. The curriculum guidelines are informed by Massachusetts ABE Basic Literacy Standards, training materials from the Minnesota Literacy Council, and Transitions Integration Framework. The materials are easy to use with pre-literate learners 1:1, in small groups, or in classroom settings. All activities are leveled and include detailed instructions, tips, and extension ideas.
