The week before, students were asked to bring in a representation of their artistic self-expressing to share with others in the group. In this lab, they will be sharing those experiences and representations. Students will be given a short, 10 word, fingerspelling quiz from the lab assistant.
In this activity, students will have the opportunity to get to know each other and their lab assistant by sharing summer experiences in a casual setting. Students will share their preferences and express reasons for their preferences as well. Students will also practice describing vacations.

Students will be comparing and contrasting their childhood background compared to Deaf individual's background. They will then be considering the pros and cons of a Deaf child being taught orally compared to through sign. Students will learn to discuss controversial and difficult topics using ASL.
This lab introduces students to family trees and helps them describe their own. It also allows students to practice their receptive skills and interpret others' signs.
Students will be comparing different dishes of food and defending their opinion on which is more healthy. After that, the lab assistant will facilitate an open discussion (via prompted questions) about the Deaf community interacting in fast food businesses compared to hearing people's experiences.
Students will be learning Fast Food slang vocabulary via a Google Slide Presentation. (Note: These signs have been verified with multiple Deaf adults). Students will also be given a prompt as to how to make a specific Fast Food business more accessible to the Deaf.
This lab will help students learn how to physically describe people, as well as ask questions about a person's physical characteristics.
This is a Novice Low, ASL 101 lab. It includes having students practice how to describe a person's physical appearance.
This lab explains the importance of facial expressions to students. They will get to play a fun game that will also help them work on asking questions and giving descriptions.
Students will have a fingerspelling quiz, both from the lab assistant and from other students in the lab. For the main activity, students will be designing their ideal classrooms fit to their learning styles, then comparing and contrasting their designs to ideal classrooms for the Deaf.
This lab will introduce ASL 101 students to our lab expectations and guidelines. It will also allow them to introduce themselves and play a short game involving the alphabet. At the end, there will also be a short presentation on some ASL culture.

This lab will help students understand more about lipreading through a fun activity. Students will also get to work on their receptive skills with various sentences.

During the warm-up students will review how to sign shapes and the cardinal numbers from the slideshow.
