This open textbooks covers theories, teaching strategies, and instructional materials pertinent to teaching reading and writing in grades PK-3, with an emphasis on integrating reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as integration across content areas while addressing diversity and inclusion.
This lesson is an introductory lesson to screenprinting and how screen printing is used for social activism. Further study of the historical background that shaped these screenprints (in the extensions section at the end of the lesson) includes topics relevant to Mexican American communities and raises awareness about important historical events in Mexican-American history in the United States. The main focus of this unit is to learn about the background and history of Mexican Americans through studying these and other Chicanx artist screen prints.
Over the course of this five lesson unit, students will explore how their preferences, interests, needs, and strengths (PINS) connect to a future career. Lessons can be taught as stand alone or as a comprehensive unit.
This is a two part mini lesson. It uses individual and group photographs to help students develop a sense of individuality and community within the classroom. This lesson provides a physical and visual representation of students within their class community. Students will see themselves as individuals who are part of a whole. For students who do not feel as though their individuality is valued, they have a tactile representation of their inclusion as individuals who are part of the group.
This is a one part mini lesson but requires a day ahead to prep. It is fun and involves a delicious snack. Students pick their favorite snack. Then we mix it together. Each student gets a portion to enjoy. The snack is a metaphor for individuals coming together to be part of a whole. They can still be separated but it is better together.
The Minnesota Literacy Council provides a wide variety of professionally written curriculum for adult ESL, adult literacy, and GED classes.
The ESL Curriculum includes six months of comprehensive, life-skills based curriculum for pre-beginning and beginning level classes. The units in these curricula are based on themes that are applicable to adult ESL learners, aligned with the CASAS standards, and incorporate the ACES Transitions Skills Framework. Each unit includes explicit teacher instructions, a grammar focus, and printable handouts.
GED Science and Mathematical Reasoning curricula are also available, as well as curriculum for employment readiness, technology mini-grants, and citizenship instruction.
The site also includes curriculum units that were created in partnership with ECHO Minnesota. Topics covered are: voting, domestic violence, community resilience, tornado safety, and health.
Misaki's Journal is a Graded Reader for the Novice High/Intermediate Low range of Japanese learners.
The Journal follows Misaki Kondo, a high schooler from Tokyo. There are eight entries in total, each has pictures and interactive materials.

When developing gender-responsive learning environment through the project, we will try to provide a complete and holistic picture of each unique situation as it relates to women, girls, men and boys.
While there are many gender-based barriers to education—socio-economic, cultural, and institutional—the project will focus on practical tools that individual teachers, directors, educators can put to immediate use in their classrooms, organization or even workplace. It addition, it contains key definitions related to gender and education, references to international commitments to gender equality in education, and a list of supplementary online resources and suggested reading materials.
We hope that this project will help to raise awareness, spark discussions, and encourage sensitive and productive learning environments for students of all genders and stages.

In this activity students will view a few music videos from various Chinese artists in different musical genres. After each video, students will engage in a short discussion about similarities and differences in the genres between American and Chinese music.
